Previously, whenever I wanted to post something I would hit the profile page which would ask me lots of questions - lot of which I would like to answer but wouldn't know the exact dates and numbers. So would get stuck at that point.

I think now you would like the 'about me' tab in your profile a lot.
It will allow you to edit /update your profile details with ease. Check it out.
