Finally the police clearance was complete again in India (it took 5+ months, Nov'2011) but I did not get my new passport so far. Looks like I have to travel all the way to Houston to get the status update because on phone you get no updates. All you can reach is the reception and that too you have to wait hours. If you are lucky your call may be picked up in about 30 minutes. Last time I tracked the time. I tried pretty much everyday for 2 weeks and waited on the line for about 5 to 6 hours(all together in 2 weeks) before I got to reception. So all together 8 months so far without passport in America. Not sure if I should cry or laugh on the sorry state of Indian Consulate, Houston. How can they let somebody without a passport for such a long time in a foreign country? One thing for sure, I learned to trust more in God with this episode
Send an email to the consulate and copy all the officials of the indian consulate in the email. Yes it is India and things are screwed up with either corruption or beurocracy but this much delay is ridiculous. Sorry to hear your situation. Is there anybody else who experienced this "police clearance". I renewed few years back at NY and there was no police clearance. Anyway hope you get it soon.
