Per new Indian Immigration rule, passports having Indian Tourist Visa (Multiple Entry)will be debarred from entering India for 2 months from departure. It can be waived by taking permisson from Indian embassy and/or proving emergency travel but at the discretion of the Immigration Officer at POE in India. Several such cases have happened at Delhi's IGIA and people deported.

Yes, This was discussed couple weeks back in forums I guess. This is correct and in practice. Happened in Chennai airport for my colleague, an Indian Citizen, and his wife who is not an Indian citizen, but travelled to India along with their son born in US with both having a multiple entry visa to India. While in India, they went out to wife's home country and again back to India for a week, then to return to USA. The POE in India, did mention about this new rule, When they mentioned they are not aware of this, and showed the return tickek to US again in a week, they let them in and also mentioned they would make an exception since they have an infant travelling with them and being first time, but this will not happen in future. People travellig with VISA must be aware of this. This does not apply to people with PIO or OCI. USA/UK and few other countires have expressed their concerns on this new practice to the Home Ministry in India, but they have mentioned this is a must for National security.

Who is respecting us in foreign countries. National security should be above all.

Could someone please reiterate the original post in simpler terms? I'm guessing it means, if you have a tourist visa to India, you cannot stay in India for more than 2 months?

There should be a gap of at least 2 months between two separate visits to India on a Tourist Visa. For Tourist Visa holders who wish to visit India within 2 months of their last visit, an application for a Permit to Re-enter India is necessary. No Permit is needed if the visa holder is traveling to multiple countries on the same itinerary and the trip follows the itinerary exactly. The visa holder must carry a copy of the itinerary to show the Immigration Officer.

My kid has 10 year (multiple entry ) visitor visa , but last visit the Indian POE officials stamped the passport with departure info ( to calculate the 2 month thingy ) and advised me to get PIO/OCI for the kid. Now i have the PIO card ( although the visa had multiple years remaining).
