Hi All
I have been on H-4 for a Loooooog(more than 5 years) time now and filed for my EAD this July. I have started looking for work and got a few interview calls.
Potential emplyers want to know the date of availability. I have hinted at October or November. Is this a good guess?
H4's out there with similar experience please share your opinion.
Please share your thoughts.
Thanks all.

Hi gangster & f_b_2007,
I am also in the same status. I was considering to start applying for jobs before the July visa bulletin fiasco. But changed my mind. I have started networking and working on my resume, credentials, other trainings etc. But will actively start looking only after i receive a notice. My guess for arrival of EAD is next year by Jan. :p
gangster: if you really like the employer, can you start working without pay for some hours and get a hang of it? it is just a thought and might need some more advice. Good Luck gals!

My wife did her CPA too while on H4. How did you get your licence without working? From what I understand you should work for an year under a CPA to be licenced. If you were on H4 how did you work? Just out of curiosity.

Hey all
Thanks for your replies and good luck with your respective job searches.
Fshah: I don't know if we can just work without pay. But if the employer really likes you, you can always be in touch with them and start working once you get the EAD.
quizzer: Sure, we can be in touch and share our ideas to get a job. I live in Wisconsin. just email me. My approach has been to submit my resume via employer website and also calling the offices directly and ask for the recruiter(tax/audit). California has a lot of openings for CPA(accountants).
f_b_2007: Good luck to you too
Thanks all

My company, reputed firm in NYC is looking for CPA's but unwilling to do H1B's. If you are intrested and can have EAD in a few months, please send me a PM. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY ON THE MESSAGE BOARD, I do not want to waste IV's resources.

I am also in the same boat. I am a Physical Therapist and finished my credentialing and license exams while on H4. now just waiting for the EAD. our file is with NSC filed in June. and looks like NSC filers have wait for some time to get their EADs. I am guessing October 2007. those with TSC are getting their EADs approved faster. well good luck to all of you. i hope the wait is over soon.

I have one question, because my wife is suffering the same pain in H-4 visa.
What will happen to her status while working on EAD if my I-485 gets rejected? I have H1-B validity still 2010.
I know I am worrying a lot based on speculation, but I want to know some information to be prepared.

Hi July filer
I got my CPA Certificate (They gave a license number). Hence I used the word licensed professional.I have completed all requirements(ethics exam+education+passed cpa papers except work experience).
just FYI: I think you have to be careful with that terminology. Companies might think you are "licenced" to sign documents. :)

I think she will fall back to H4. If you maintain your H1 you will probably be fine but if you start using EAD and it gets rejected you will be out of status too. Perhaps someone can correct me if I am wrong. I am just learning these things.

To Julyfiler
Let me thank you for your insight. And good luck with your GC.
That's one of the reasons why people want to maintain their H1 until they actually get their greencard approval.
I'm thinking worst case scenario that we'll get our EAD's by december or january. I'm H4 myself and graduated BS Microbiology. I've been out of a job for 2 years now and itching to start working soon. Good luck ladies! :)

All CA/CPA folks,
My wife is a CA with about 5 years indian (internal audit) experience?
We have recently filed her EAD.
My question is can she take up a job first and then study/pass CPA exams or pass CPA exams and then search for Job?
Thanks

She should easily be able to find jobs atleast in audit / tax firms. It will be difficult to find jobs in private companies. It would be helpful to mention in the resume that she is currently persuing the CPA exams.

Most employers in USA do not understand / recognize CA (unfortunatly) unless she had big 4 experience in India, so it will be difficult to find a job. In that respect if she would have complete her CPA first, then that will help the resume look good and would give her good chance.
Don't take me wrong, as this is mine and so many of my friend's first hand experience. Its different for non-IT folks, when it comes to Indian education and experience.
If you are in NY / NJ area, let me know as I may be able to help in finding a job. I am CA + CPA and currently working with a large national CPA firm.
Wish you and your wife all the best....

Interesting... Looks like I have waited for the longest time :). 8 years ... mean time did my law school again here and just this year (oct 08 quota) got the H1B after the change in law but now that the employer knows that i can start earlier on EAD wants to start with a lower pay than what was listed in H1 and does not want me to join in H1....
