Folks from Nor Cal,
here is a quick summary of where we are:
1. A few members have signed up at http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pHlrh9dniUVcyX7-c8VtKcQ&hl=en&pli=1
We clearly need more members, please update this sheet with your information if you volunteered to man the booth! If you cannot access that sheet, send me a PM.
2. Only a few members have signed up to print flyers in the same spreadsheet. We need more volunteers for this too.
3. Only a few monetary contributions have been received so far. On the other hand, we have already spent about $650 on preparations. Therefore if you voted to suggest you can contibute a $ amount, please PM me and I can let you know how to contribute (DO NOT contribute to common IV fund, we will not be using common IV funds for this state chapter event) Suggested amount: $50/ $25

Hello members from North California/ SF Bay Area:

We are planning to have a booth at a prominent cultural event (between November 2- November 4) in Sunnyvale. Please check your state chapter yahoogroop emails ASAP.

Some of the things we will be doing at this event:
1. Increase awareness about Immigration Voice and its mission
2. Sign up new members
3. Possibly, sell IV merchandise
4. Accept monetary contributions for IV

We are currently looking for volunteers to make this a success.

Here are some of the ways in which you can help:
1. Attend the booth for a few hours:
Clarification: The volunteers will need to do some work too;) and not just "attend"
2. Prepare banners/ posters to take to the booth
3. Print flyers to be distributed at the event
4. Contribute: the cost of the booth is not too high, but there are other expenses we may incur. Even small contributions like $10 and $20 will help.
However, please do not contribute any amount for this purpose to the common IV fund. Please wait for details from us on this thread. This is a local state chapter activity, and we will not use common IV funds for this purpose.

2. Sign up new members: A lot of folks in the immigrant community still don't know about IV. The volunteers at the booth will help these people understand who we are, what our cause is, etc. In other words, we will invite them to join IV as well as the North CA state chapter.
3. Possibly, sell IV merchandise: We can sell IV T Shirts/ mugs etc at the booth and thereby generate revenue for IV. This idea is only a proposal at this time.

Sunday – 10:00AM – 5:00PM

This is The Place, a wish list, I mentioned to many since months.

Last many events, shivratri etc... had always more than 4000 people.

Yes, I can attend the booth for a few hours (I live an hour away from Sunnyvale and will volunteer if there is a need).

I will also contribute towards the expenses (please post the amount required so that everyone willing to contribute can split the costs).

At this time we do need a few more people to volunteer at the booth. Your help in this will be greatly appreciated! Do let us know if you have a preference (Friday/ Saturday/ Sunday)

For the monetary contribution, I would suggest $25-$50 per person. A few people do that, and we will be covered for the booth expenses.

I do not know (this is my first time doing anything like this) what other expenses we will incur. Requesting experts (= Drona from SoCal) to provide some advice here (PM or email me).

Right now, please hold on to your monetary contributions. Once we know how many people are contributing we can decide on the mode and time of payment.

Looking for volunteers! By now we know that we will probably need 15-20 volunteers to take turns and attend the booth over the period of 3 days.

There is also a LOT of work to do (thanks for that eye-opening email Drona:) before the event, so we need your help even during the next 2 weeks!

Thanks arc! The event is in the Sunnyvale Temple. Please check your yahoogroup emails (i hope you are a member, if not please let me know).

Our hero GSC999 will be in India then. However, he is already guiding us on how to prepare for and conduct this event.

Replied to you. But for the benefit of everyone who is volunteering: we need to do a LOT of work, including printing a banner on cloth, printing T shirts, printing flyers, brochures, etc. This is besides other initiatives we can take up, such as inviting lawmakers and immigration attorneys from the bay area.
Everyone, we will do a conference call soon for allocating responsibilities. Please keep checking this thread and the North CA state chapter yahoogroup.

Lets have some friendly rivalry with SoCal, who are also having a booth at the same time :)

We need help with:-

*people to man the booth and spread the word about IV. Time slots on Friday, Sat and Sun available
