Indian Passport Renewal at NY Question

I am trying to apply for a passport renewal at the NY Office. My Passport was first issued in Nov 2000 in India for Five years. I got it extended for another 5 years. Now for renewing it shoud I be filling the new passport application or the extension of short validity passports please let me know

What is the time line for issuance of new passport from NYCG lately?

Does any one know whether 6 months validity of passport is required to enter in to the country ? (I think that was required for visa issuance).

Can one come in to country if they have a valid visa , but the passport is valid just for a month after entering in to the country ?

Planning for a short term trip and it is pain to get it renewed there.

I got it renewed in NYC consulate in March. It is really simple if you have all the documents mentioned in the link

I got the passport in a week. They mailed it to my home address. (carry a proof of address, valid visa, old passport, photographs .... ,

well i had submitted in person, so the Consulate webiste says its fourth business day

Reissue of passports : 4th business day
Extension of short validity of passports : 4th business day

Attestation services : Same day

PIO cards : 4th business day

OCI cards : 1 to 2 months

but they dont provide an estimate for mailed applications, so plan accordingly

I have heard that people having shorter validity passport get I-94 with an end date matching passport expiry date
