From IV: Access to Donor forum issues [Archive]

Some members may face access to donor forum issues. It maybe due to several reasons.

- Their Monthly subscription may have expired/canceled. If that is the case, please renew your subscriptions and we will be able to provide access within a day.

- All recurring contribution signed up prior to 6/6/09 have to sign-up again. We have made some changes in the system. We had sent emails to some such members. If you took action as per the email we sent, and signed up again then you should be having access at this time and can ignore signing up again. If you check your paypal account, it will show that no payment was processed after the initial contribution were made as part of the recurring sign-up. The glitch was fixed sometime back and the system kicked-in yesterday to revoke access based on the recent contribution history. Since the past recurring contribution is not active for these users, it would be great if they could please sign-up for the recurring contribution and help the community effort.

- If you already have a monthly recurring contribution and this access problem is in error, please notify us immediately with your payment details and we will fix the problem. We try our best to manage this access, however there may have been errors. Sorry for this inconvenience.

- In future whenever you contribute to IV do always let us know your IV handle/contribute from your logged in status so that it is easy for the system to associate the contributions with your handle. Else, we have to find out and associate it manually.

We urge everyone interested in supporting ImmigrationVoice more actively to sign up for recurring contributions. This will help IV pursue its agenda more aggressively. The immigration issue is now heating up and we are involved in advocacy efforts at several levels. We have a lot of work going on/planned and in the coming days many updates will be posted.

- Sometimes subscriptions fail for reasons like credit card may have expired. IN that case you may have to renew your subscription to get access.

Please give us at least a couple of days to provide you access once you have signed up. Note that we verify each member before granting access to anyone. Thus we do not guarantee access to everyone who signs up.

Me too, my recurring subscription is still very much active, I see a payment made to Immigration Voice from my Paypal account on July 1, so I assume, I shouldn't be affected by the 6/6/09 issue? I mean if I was, I would expect my Paypal transfer to get rejected, but it didn't.

Anyway, I'll wait a few days and see if this issue gets fixed on its own. If I still can't log in, I'll whine some more. :)

The LINK (http://immigrationvoice.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=26&Itemid=44) http://immigrationvoice.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=26&Itemid=44 on the Contribute page does not display the button for recurring contributions. This needs to be corrected.

Donors -

You will need to log into your account on IV and click on the "Forums" tab. You will then see a "Donate Now" link under the Donations Goal section at the top of the page. Clicking on it will bring up THIS (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/misc.php?do=donate) http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/misc.php?do=donate page that has the drop down menu with options to select amount for recurring contribution. Select the option you want ($amount with #months) and it will take you to paypal website where you can log into your paypal account and donate.

I have always paid using my bank's bill payment feature. To be fair - there was a gap of a couple of months as I did not notice that the instruction has expired - but it was set up again at the beginning of this month.

So far - I have not had an issue with the donor forum access. However, the access seems to be disabled now.

I always had access to Donor forum. I use Citibank Bill Pay to send my $25 check monthly. The last check was sent on 6/27 and it is still showing as Open.

I have transaction records of checks getting cleared for the past months. Like the 4/27 and 5/27 check got cleared on 6/12.

Please let me know if this is not the right way to send contributions and I will change it to Paypal or the preferred mode.

Please let me know if this mode of sending contribution is not going to work so that I can stop the next check due on 7/27 and set up a paypal contribution.

I'm a donor and this is exactly what I'm experiencing. I contacted the administrator about the problem and got a reply saying that there was a glitch and they could resolve it. However, I still cannot view the donor-only forums. I guess, I shall wait until tomorrow...

IV has a lot of activity going on and it needs continuous flow of funds. One time contributions help but they just serve that one time. Our struggle is going to take a lot longer and once the momentum has gained, it gets very tough to slow down because of the lack of funds.

Hence, it has been decided to give Donor access based on your monthly contributions. If you made a contribution in July, then inform the admins. They will then grant you Donor access for 1 month. Donor access has to be given manually. Hence, please be patient!

Please understand that this IV Donor based model has been designed not to deny information to active members but to make sure IV has enough funds when a lot of action is going on in the background.

It has been decided to give Donor access based on only current monthly contributions. If you donate $25, you will get access for one month. If more than $25 like $50, $100...you will get access for two, four months likely.

I think the donor forum is open to folks who have a monthly subscription.

$25 = 1 month
$50 = 2 months
and so...

The past contributions don't count anymore unless the CORE decides other way.

Looks like this is going into the deaf ears of IV core. Upon repeated posts/repeated private messages to nixster and Pappu, they are not caring about those who donated for FOIA cause anymore. They are worried only about "Monthly donors" now. Fine, may be those who all donated for FOIA and not getting updates may need to ask for the refund from IV. I will never ever donate if there is a fund raising campaign for any future issues.

When FOIA funding drive was on, we clarified with core that this drive is for a specific cause. They mentioned that this could cost more than $5K and we extended the drive for 10K.

I wish the data will be published soon to everyone - at lease who contributed for that specific funding drive.

Now that access is restricted....well ..... I hope the information will be available to all very soon. What else can we hope for?:(

This seems like cheating to me, I contributed specifically for FOIA task and have every right to the information. IV should forward the received information to all the members who contributed during the month when this drive was going on.

IV can sit tight and not release the information but it will be cheating and IV will loose faith of all the paying and non-paying members.

Two year EAD's have helped us save $300.00 + Lot of tension. Please understand this. IV is responsible for 2 year EAD's.

If someone paid for something they should get the benefit for it. By restricting the information only for DONOR forum, it is very clear that many folks will feel they are cheated. If someone had contributed for a cause they should see the results else it will just deter folks from joining and contributing to IV in future. IV core Should decide whether they want a short term satisfaction or long term solution.

I am still willing to become monthly contributor, in fact in the early days I was a monthly contributor. But can't justify it to myself when only 2-3 % of the community is contributing monthly and willing to help themselves. If after repeated requests of monthly contributions this is the situation, then there is something missing I feel.

I feel if IV brings down the contribution to $10/month, the volume of contributing members might increase and there will be more number of commited members. This is just my thinking.

I can understand why some people are getting riled up about. I am also a past contributor who is not a current "Donor", though I too made a $25.00 contribution specific to the FOIA drive. But please do not make allegations on the good folks form the Core and other dedicated people who are working hard (who are "Donors"). I have received a PM from Pappu about 10 days back saying that they dont have any updates and will let us know when they do. So let us give some them some time (even though we think we have some information as of yesterday).

This is my humble request to Core:
Since many people have contributed just for FOIA but are not "Donors", please make all information (and all discussions) about FOIA available to everyone (not just to those who contributed for FOIA) on the open forum. I dont think that it is any sensitive information that people on the other side can use against us (please correct me if wrong). This is only for the FOIA issue, so that it is just and fair and a win-win solution for everyone.

I do not mean to belittle your work contribution to this organization and forum and highlighting the issues faced by all of us. I am not sure why this selective activation of access is being practiced. I am aware of what was written by Pappu in the first page of this post and I am sure a lot of members (including myself) contributed to the FIOA drive with a hope to see the results published and accessible to all.

The information provided by IV based on FOIA does not seems to be correct.
The web page which calculates the prediction has a problem.

For Dec 2007 priority date for EB3 India, it says that your position is 8920.
As per USCIS, there are close to 70,000 I485 pending for EB3 india. How is that it is showing some where close to 9000 in FOIA?

USCIS may have provided wrong info in FOIA

Here is a posting by IV member.
As per this, IV need to distribute among the community irrespective of donor or not. Else we can again file FOIA request with USCIS and ask for the info and tell that IV didn't distribute it to all.

I posted this on other thread but realized that thread was marked as insignificant and can't be seen on front page.

Guys,

Please cool down for a while. I was the person who started and led FOIA funding drive. I had doubts that this is going to happen and thats why people will remember, I halted the contribution for 4 days until we clarified with IV core that they will make it available to contributors of FOIA.

I can feel the pain of people as I am one of them that people who contributed for a specific cause are not given access to the information. It is a completely worthless argument or consolation that the information will be available to everyone soon. If that is the case, it must be available first to people who contributed for the cause and then to the new donors.

I completely understand that IV as an organization needs fund. Much more fund that what we are gathering now. But I would suggest not to use FOIA as marketing strategy to make donors. It is a wrong approach.

On other side, I would request accusers to go through IV's agenda list and if they build confidence, please start contribution. Please keep in mind, I have never used the word Donor. You will be contributor and not donor as you are contributing for your own benefit.

Before fighting for all these, I personally have serious doubts about authenticity of this data. I can't see that as it is strictly under "Donor's Only" firewall but by reading other posts, I saw Dec 2007 EB3 India shows queue no about 10K. I sincerely don't believe that. So rather than fighting among ourselves, let core fight with USCIS to get correct data.

Sadly I had to get some of this information from other websites.

But I will continue to support IV. The cause is too big compared to this small mistake.

We had fund drive (10000$)@ 5 months before for collecting information about pending visa and approved number of visa .I think we have received that information but unfortunately it is available only for donor forum members. People who donated just for this cause and not part of donor forum now they are feeling betrayal by initial fund raising reason. I am all for donation and IV have to make some money to run show but if ivians don’t get information then pushing this noble cause may get limited to some group.
Not to mention future fund raising may not see good results just due to donor policy.
To generate more revenue we can make key information available only after paying certain token amount to view that forum. This way people like me can contribute time to time and donors can keep their elite chat with their elite group.

By the way, I do personally believe that it would be only fair to include all the FOIA donors in the information sharing by IV, but it's just a personal opinion. Different people may have different views on it.

Nobody is selling any product here, that a free trial to try product will be available. Donation shows the commitment and how serious a person is about the issues and what is he willing to do to resolve the issue.

I read a lot of post of yours eastindia, its mostly gas and nothing else. If you are really serious start donating and help. Also please don't give me the "If" crap. Try wikipedia on what is donation before giving that "If" crap.

I Have donated to IV in the past and my subscription has expired and found it now while looking at this thread.

But my access to donor forum was never working, i have emailed admin few times on this, but no replies.

So then what is the commitment from IV to help donors ? Also looking at the issues for lot of previous posters here it dosent seem to be an issue only for me. Another thing i have noticed in IV off late is everymonth i see only a max of 100 to 200 $ TOTAL donation for the month, even at the end of the month. Is that is what IV really get for one whole month, with we seeing so many "Donors" here?

Will access be granted for only regular contributors? not for those who contribute for special drives of IV? I contributed for the IV's efforts to get the FOIA - to get pending list from USCIS. But then i am not a monthly contributor. I believe this idea of donor forum came in during that drive and the suggestion was to give access to donor forum for those who contribute for the drive.

But now i dont have access to the cause that i have contributed for.

I have monthly contribution on for quite some time, Till 3/12/10 I was able to access Donor forum Threads , but not today. My Id shows up as member rather than Donor.

Though my subscription had expired (wasn't aware) I had access to Donor forum for additional 3 months. If I had received notification indicating my subscription had expired I would have renewed sooner. Dont even mind my Donor access being disabled immediately after expiration of subscription.

I know you and the core team is busy doing important stuff, but thought this suggestion would be helpful in getting timely donations from committed members.
