Hello,

I forgot to sign my OPT i-20 when submitting application for the EAD card, what sort of remedial steps should I take ? will this lead to a rejection or will I have to submit the application all over again.

Please help .

I remember that one of my friends forgot to sign his OPT I-20. The form was rejected and check was returned. It was way back in 2008. I am not sure if things have changed now.

It could be either way. USCIS may reject your application or they may issue a Request for Evidence and ask for a new , signed I-20 form. I think you need to wait and see. As soon as your check / money order is cashed, you'll know they accepted the application for processing.

@ glus

Thank you very much for your reply!! , Can we safely assume that the application has been accepted if the money is withdrawn from the bank account? I checked my account and the amount was withdrawn.

Yes. That means they accepted the case for processing. Don't panic. USCIS has your full record while you attended college on F-1 visa via the SEVIS system. Having a signed I-20 on file is only a technicality, which can be easily addressed later.

i don't want to scare you but i did read an article in either the LA or NY times where someone had forgotten to sign and ICE agents showed up at his apartment on a sunday asking why he did not sign, they however accepted that it could have been a mistake after the person showed them all relevant documents and asked him to go to the nearest USCIS office the next day and sign the document and call them after he had done it and if he did not call them they would be back. The joke was that the next day the guy took a day off and traveled several hours to a nearby city to the closest local USCIS office and found that they were closed for some holiday.
