View Full Version : Some Good News: Significant reduction in long-pending FBI name checks

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Ombudsman announced a significant decline in the number of pending FBI name checks for individuals seeking immigration benefits in the United States. :):)

USCIS Ombudsman Michael Dougherty said. "Congress provided the necessary funding for USCIS and the FBI to complete a larger percentage of FBI name checks in a timely manner.

There were 269,943 name checks pending on May 6, 2008. There are 95,449 pending as of August 12, 2008.
There were 185,162 name checks pending for more than six months on May 6, 2008.
There are 61,817 pending more than six months as of August 12, 2008.
USCIS met its April 2, 2008 goal to process all name checks pending more than two years by July 2008.
"USCIS and FBI Release Joint Plan to Eliminate Backlog of FBI Name Checks; Partnership Establishes Series of Milestones To Complete Checks."

The bulletin update was very depressing, but at least this news gave us some hope.

It will be more exciting if the recapture bill pass in the house/senate.
Let’s hope for the good news.

Some good news ... atleast the delay due to name check will no more be a long wait, especially, for people with earlier priority dates and struck in name check

at least no one will be held due to name check reason..

It is really Great news. Their next goal is to eliminate all the Name check applications pending more than one year by November this year. So most of our applications will be cleared by November. It is good that they achieved their 1st goal i.e. Clearing all Name Check applications pending for more than two years by september.

Ah ..that's good news. Maybe I need to check my Name Check status ever since my I-485 got approved in Jul. (NC was 100% not cleared at the time of approval). Officialy it should be cleared by Nov 2008!
