Does anyone know if we need a valid visa/AP to travel to Puerto Rico, it is a US territory but I just want to be sure before I go. My current AP has expired.

While coming back, one has to go thru immigration. So, current AP may be needed.

Actually I have heard people say you don't have to go through immigration just agriculture dept to check to see if you are not carrying any fruits or veg into the mainland.

Call the Puerto Rico office (and mention non-US citizen with expired AP/visa) and confirm for yourself. Then you don't have to rely on hearsay.

We went to Puerto Rico last month and I can tell you that nobody asked us for any kind of papers at the airport (in either direction). There was no customs or immigration...it's just like a domestic flight from Orlando/Atlanta etc. to San Juan and vice versa.

Just to be on the safe side, I'd recommend carrying your travel documents and other papers. I did, although I never used them.

Completely inaccurate information. There is no immigration to go through in either direction.

While coming back, your baggage needs to be screened by department of agriculture before you can check the baggage with your airline.

Apart from that, it is just like any US flight - show your driver's license as ID at security check and airline check in.

I traveled last year, with family, and did not have AP as it had expired and renewal had not yet come through.

That's not correct. Puerto Rico is considered domestic flight. There is no immigration involved. I went there a couple of years ago, and it's like traveling from one US city to another. However it is recommended to keep passport with you just in case OP decided to wander off the PR island, in that case, re-entry into PR will require immigration :)

Traveled earlier this year. Absolutely no immigration check, your driving ID is enough. But, do carry your immigration documents (AP, H1B).

Enjoy the nice warm weather, mojitos are the best.
