Hi all,

Many of us participated in the "white house letter campaign for administrative fixes". It had a partially positive impact.

Given the current financial meltdown, there is almost certainly going to be a lame duck session of congress. In all likeliness that will include an economic stimulus package.

I wonder if it might not be worth the effort of our membership to embark on another letter writing campaign about how we as legal, hard working, immigrants with a desire to contribute and be part of the future of this country and its economy can help in that regard. We can include the proposals by "Nixtor" in that letter as a tangible way in which we can contribute to an improvement in the economy.

If we manage to send atleast 10000 letters to that effect to the white house, we just might get such a provision included into what in my view will be another inevitable stimulus package.

I opened this thread to stimulate some debate on this idea. What do you guys think?

Following release of an internal report by USCIS that outlines serious fraud in the H-1B visa program, Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa sent a letter to the agency asking for additional details about how the government is enforcing the H-1B visa laws.

The news like above coupled with potential recession will be hurdle for any skilled immigration reform. Another area they can find issue is L1. L1 persons cannot work in client site. But that rule is rarely followed. It is not enforced also. If they enforce it then Indian companies really feel the pinch of H1B quota. Now Medium and Large companies hardly impacted by H1b quota due to L1. But I heard number of rejections of L1 is increased in Consulate in India

all such campaigns are more effective if they are endorsed by the core ..doing something is better than doing nothing but where is IV core ??

This is an idea which may or may not have been considered by IV core and the lobbyists. I would like this thread to be a sounding board for it, or related ideas. What can we do for this economy while helping ourselves as well?
You are absolutely right, for it to have any chance of getting anything close to the number of letters needed, it will need the endorsement of IV Core.

I sense that this is definitely a time when policy makers are willing to think outside of the box in a jiffy and not be as dogmatic and partisan in their thinking, as the current situation can legitimately be called a crisis. Conservatives might even go along with something that is helpful but spending neutral. This is clearly one such idea. We all saw how hopping mad they were about the bailout.

I'm not seeing the downside in such an effort right now. In fact, one can legitimately ask whether in making this proposal, we are unnecessarily putting ourselves in a situation where we have to buy a house in an uncertain economy. Yet if we want to be Americans, we have to be prepared to jump in, take a risk and be part of this country in good and bad times. The housing market is ripe for and in need of qualified new buyers. This is another way in which we can demonstrate/dangle our legitimate "contribution" to this economy.

I think we should continue with our "USCIS admin fixes campaign". Its far from over.
It has a much better chance of being looked at, given the dire state of the economy and the short duration of the lame duck session.

Please check out the thread.
