In the past the Northern Cali. group was very effective group in terms of activity and results. We put together campaigns to meet lawmakers, raise publicity, membership drives and raise general awareness. We are in a fantastic position with both Sen. Feinstein and Rep. Pelosi representing this area.

It would be nice to set up a formal chapter to continue pushing the good work that we have already begun. If there is any interest then please let me know and I will start to put things in motion.

All the best!

oguinan, I have heard some positive feedback about you doing volunteer work for IV and IV would like to request you to help in the state chapter effort (Northern California). You can organize all members (that have expressed willingness on this thread) and communicate with them for the local area tasks. Pls view the action items in http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?p=30164#post30164

Members pls contact Oguinan to coordiinate and organize local area activities.

We are planning to have a confrence call in the coming weeks to inform members about the meet the lawmakers drive, explain the process further and answer any questions. Pratik and Anurag would be organizing it. Pls. communicate wth Pratik (since he is in CA) for any questions you may have on meet the lawmakers. Since you are from Nancy Palosi's district your chapter work is important to IV's success. Good luck and best wishes.

For other members who would like to know about oguinan, here is his brief intro: oguinan name is Ollie Guinan. he graduated with an honors degree in Computer Science from one of Europe's top universities. He has been working in the high-tech industry in the San Francisco Bay Area since early 2000 and has been involved in the immigration system since late 2000. he has recently received approval of his labor certification from the Dallas BRC and waiting for a visa number to become available in order to apply for a change of status.

We had an interesting and productive call in the Northern California chapter this evening. We discussed IV's previous achievements and outlined a short term plan to move forward.

Members agreed to get in contact with local representatives in Sacramento, Santa Clara and San Francisco. It would be great to hear from other members who are interested in meeting with lawmakers in other districts of Northern California (remember that your taxes pay their salaries).

All attendees agreed to bring new members to the next call. We agreed on a goal of 8-10 new members on the call next week. We hope to have another call next week to discuss progress and plans to move forward.

Before the next call an agenda will be provided so that members will be aware of the general issues before the call.

Thanks to everybody for their time tonight - it is greatly appreciated.

When is the next conf.call or team-event. Is there anything I could do here in Sacramento?.

We had another interesting call this week with some new members on the call. This was the second call for the Northern California chapter and we are developing some goals and plans to achieve these goals.
We have setup a yahoo group to facilitate communication within the group and to keep track of our various efforts.

The yahoo group will contain a FAQ on meeting your local lawmaker.
There will be a spreadsheet of Northern California lawmakers where members can volunteer to setup a meeting with their local Congressman.
We discussed putting some formal structures in place to make people accountable for specific goals and to allow volunteers to focus on specific tasks.

Our volunteers with experience in marketing will develop a plan to publicise out name and goals.

We discussed a proposal that we meetup in person in mid January. This meetup will be the official launch of the state chapter.

The next meeting of the Northern California chapter will be announced before Wednesday December 6th.

Thanks to everybody who attended the call and volunteered.

oguinan, arun. I checked out yahoo-groups for our chapter. How do I make sure I am on the email list. I guess, I should check this thread from time-to time. I would like to be involved in the state-chapter and also learn more by being on the conf.call.

I'm in - I commute via Muni (live and work in SF) but my "local" station is Montgomery which is a fairly heavily trafficked one.
