My wife's surname is empty on her passport while here given name is "XXX AAA".
In her visa surname is "XXX AAA" while her Given name is "FNU". Now I need to add her to my 485 applycation. Will this cause any problem ..??? However her driver license says "XXX AAA" . no FNU is printed.
As anyone in similar situation ..??? Any inputs is greatly apprecited ...!!!

I don't think that should be a problem as US Embassy in India is putting FNU in all H4 visa these days.

She preivously had H4 visa and now has H1b. In both it is printed as FNU for given name.

FNU means 'First Name Unknown'. This happened to me. Surname has my full name and given name has 'FNU'. My USA visa is like that too. all you need to do is, wright the correct name on the respective columns. Nothing will happen.

OK my F1, 2 H1B stamps all had FNU, my 485, AP, EAD, DMV docs etc I have a first and last name, my new indian passport is now clear with first and last name.
recently at POE, I entered using H1, I had filled my I94 as first and last name, the officer was pissed off saying that my first name should be FNU and they go with the visa, he made me fill a new form and my first name is FNU. I even argued with him saying that I had used my first and last name for the past 7 times, he said it was all wrong and I should not have done that. Then I realized that there is no point in arguing with that Filipino officer who couldn't even speak english properly. Finally, I hope to get my green card in few months and screw the whole FNU thing.....

When issuing visa, in your passport if your "surname" is empty, then they simply use the "given name" as the lastname/surname on your visa and then put a "FNU" for the first name. You can correct this on your passport by going to the nearest Indian Consulate, or when you are renewing the passport.
You can continue to use your name in the correct way on any other applications.
