Hi
Has anyone applied for an Australian Tourist visa?
I'm not a US citizen or GC holder. Am on a visa.

Does anyone know what the process is? Links?
Thanks
Viv

There is lot of information in different Australian official websites that it could be confusing. We did this last year so I can help you a bit.

Visa Type to be applied for Indians without GC is Tourist Visa (Subclass 676) and not eligible for online application. It should be sent through post to Embassy in DC.

It is a pain because they will ask for all the documents - proof of funds, proof of legal residence in US (Valid H1B, visa ), employment letter showing you are an employee and that you have been granted vacation for those dates, etc.

They accept credit card for visa fees and if you provide your email address, Visa officer will email if they require any additional docs. VO who approved our case was prompt in his response.

Some useful links:

Application Form: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/48r.pdf

DC Embassy site : Go to Application process and other immigration section at this
URL before filling out the application Visas and migration - Embassy of Australia (http://www.usa.embassy.gov.au/whwh/Visas_and_Migration.html)

To learn about the different types of visa and other info : Tourists - Visitors - Visas & Immigration (http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/)

Hope it helps.

The response from the above is good. I would suggest to you also that you check the company you will hire in case you do it on a third party. Find some information first about Global Visas Fraud (http://www.globalvisas.co.za/global-visas-fraud) before embarking into such things.:)
