I figured I'd share my experience with those who are in the same situation.
In short, I was a bit late filing for EAD renewal, as a result, my current EAD is expired and I still await new card.
Since in the past, my driver's license has been extended to the same length as my EAD was valid, I assumed I was loosing my driver's license too. Today, I called DMV just to ask them what am I to do without proper ID/driver's license. In some rural states, it's hard to get by without driving. I am in New Hampshire. To my surprise, they invited me to come in to DMV and extend it to another 60 days. I only had to bring expired license and receipt confirming EAD renewal application have been received.
Hope this helps someone avoid driving on expired license.
