We are on H1B and we are going to visit Mexico next month (air tickets not booked). We want to apply for the tourist visa. Has anyone done this? Can someone tell us the exact list of documents to take? We tried calling the embassy and visiting the website but could not find this info! Everything is in Spanish (We live in Austin).
We are not citizens so we do need the visa. But nowhere is the exact procedure mentioned.

Are you planning to go to Juarez near El Paso for your stamping?
There's been some trouble brewing these and the US has renewed their travel alert for the place. http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/02/25/mexico.juarez.drugs/index.html
Be safe !!

If you are going to Juarez (where I have done 3 visa stampings), I will recommend Victor Garcia's services ....

If you H1B is valid and you are working I would advise you not to leave the country for any thing. I have said the same thing in another thread as well. People are getting sent back from POE left & right. I know of 3 cases now with valid projects. So unless you are out-of-status do not even step out of country. One of the case is Mexico stamping and he has been given 10 days to check out his stuff and leave the country..
If you choose to go, you do not need to do anything, all you need is a way to get to the American consulate from the US border, you can cross over in to mexico, take a taxi to the american consulate, get in the line, apply. There might be a delay of 1 day to get your visa these days so be prepared to stay back in mexico for the day. Once you get the visa get back to the American side and go through immigration. If you are lucky then you enter back in to USA without any of the above mentioned problems
- good luck
