Returning resident visa

hi friends,
I would like to know about the returning resident visa,
My sister is a green card holder, she had to go to India to complete her college education there, its a four years course, she is in india right now attending the classes, as if now she has to return within six months, and we plan to apply for reentry permit and then go back.

but i just heard about the returning resident visa, can anyone give light to what it reallyis and can we apply for this, if so how?

She can apply for re-entry permit which is valid for 2 years and can stay out of county for that time.

The same can be extended for another 2 year period, but in order to apply, she should return back to US and stay here till it gets approved. [Many say to get the second re-entry permit is difficult and please check with a competent attorney regarding this].

Also please note that, applying for re-entry permit broke the continuous residency status and her time to apply for citizenship will start again only after her permanent return back from India.

Take an appropriate decision after careful consideration of these facts.
