I am collecting all documents required for 485 ( PD may be current in next few months). When I was checking the birth certificate, the date of registration is written as 01.04.2076 instead of 1976 and they have just scratched 20 and just left 76. No white mark and no correction. Is it ok ? Rest everything is fine including my name, date of birth and other details.
Do I need to get a new one once again ? Do I need to submit the original hard copy to along with 485 ? Is it ok if there is a scratch in it ?
Please let me know if it will be issue so that I can contact my parents in india and try to get the new one again.
Thanks in advance.

Hi My daughter's birth certificate has her mother's name wrong..(we did not change wife's name after marriage, but Birth certificate has name considering that we have changed it). e.g instead of Divya <her father's name> <her last name>, it is written as - Divya <my name> <my last name?
What is the alternative now???

Just get an affidavit done from your wife's parents stating that she is their daughter and listing all names used since birth. Google for birth certificate affidavits.

You will need to get the birth certificate translated in English. Take a look at this link for further info.

I was going through my docs and couldn't find the original hindi certificate. I do have an English one.
Do we need to send the original hindi certificate to USCIS or just a copy?

Hi, can anyone tell me do I need to obtain a birth certificate to apply for I485 for myself only as my priority day might be current soon (hopefully)?

USCIS needs only a certifified/notarised translated copy for filing.
But pl, be advised for every single document you submit to uscis, you have the 'original' to be produced if needed (odd chance: may be 1 in 1000's, though). This may not end with gc. So, treasure all original documents in safe

You don't need to notarize any of the copies (it does not hurt if you do get it notarized). I did the not notarize any of the copies that were sent to USCIS. My lawyer told me that USCIS will accept the photocopy without any question. However, you should be prepared to show the original if requested. The only original I sent (other than the forms) was the employment letter from the employer.

Depending upon who is translating the document: self/or, a certified translators. In case you doing yourself, then better get it notarized.....if its by pro'/certified agency--no need to overdo
GC wait.....uscis won't respect BC from the embassy. Its absurd, but this is how it it.

Birth Certificate from Indian Embassy won't work with USCIS. You need to get it from the local Registrar of Births (usually the municipality or Corporation of the city/town/village where you were born.

It does not work, you need it from the Govt of India's agency in India. typically municipality. if not available - a letter from municipality that it is not available and 2 different affidavits from uncle / Aunt in USCIS prescribed format. Confirmed with Attorney today.

Hi,
i have a similar kind of problem , my registration date on the DOB certificate is in 2010 , i have seen some forums that USCIS accepts BC only if the registration date is within one year of the DOB.
As a secondary evidence i am submitting Affidavits from both of my parents, my question is do i need to submit original of the affidavit or will photocopies will do good enough?
