Can you please shed some light on the A Number..

Whats its significance and when is it allotted to you?

This number will be assigned to you after you submit I485 form (it will show at the top of your I485 receipt, next to the word "Applicant"), and it is the same "alien number" that will be on your PR (green) card. Once you become PR, your A# is possibly the 3rd most important number, next to your DOB and SSN, until maybe when you become a citizen.

That is true. And it can be different from the A# on your I-485. But the advice I have heard so far is that these numbers are eventually reconciled and usually, the final A# you end up with on your GC is the the one that appears on your I-485 (with which the A# on EAD and AP should match).
This has been the case with my I-140, I-485, EAD and AP thus far.

It is Alien Registration Number that is of significance when you do business with USCIS. E.g. You would need to write that number when you file a change of address form, or on your N-400, etc. Typically this is the number on your green card, or approved 140 ,or your 485 receipt. You can have multiple of these assigned to you over time - I have two. I don't know if the most recent one is what you should use, but that would be a safe guess. Check with a lawyer.

I filed i140 and i485 concurrently. I have 2 A#'s. The 140 is different from the 485. The one that works for most things is the 485 one. Its alos the number on my EAD.
