Applied for extension but no response

My mother stayed with us (Visiting visa) for about 9 months to take care of our new born baby , eventually when is entered she got a 6 months visa but then we did apply for her extension but no response so far , now she's really not worried about the response but wants to get back to India , My questions gurus .
1) Can she travel with her expired visa ? when i called the travel agent they say to call British Embassy and confirm?
2) She is flying through London . Does she need but transit visa since her visa has expired ?
3) Can she travel without a transit visa since she's got a receipt which we applied for extension ?
3)How long will it take to apply for a British transit visa ?

I would say .. just to avoid any risk , you should just book a different one way ticket from US to India that does not go through London,Brussels etc..

You don't need trasit visa, if you are going back to your country of citizenship if you travelling through

1. Frankfurt
2. Amsterdam
