URGENT!! Current company filed H1B but if change company then will i have opt status

Hi All,

I am on my stem extension and my current company filed my h1b already. It is not approved yet and if I change my company now and move to another company as I want to use my stem extension fully. Then how is my status. If my h1b is approved in the mean time even if I join the new company.. will I be considered on H!B or still on opt.

Please let me know.

Since your current company has applied for your H1b your current employer will hold your H1 when it gets approved. also if it gets approved starting this year from Oct 3 you will be on h1b and your opt extension will automatically get cancelled and you will be on H1 status. if it does not gets approved you can continue working on your EAD [OPT extension] till it gets expired.
Also if you want to work of other company after your H1 b is approved you have to transfer your h1 b to that company before joining work.
remember at a give time you can only have one status: either h1 b or OPT [EAD/F -1].
