Greetings,

I am an F-1 student currently on my OPT extension with an expired visa. I am from Dominican Republic which is considered one of the adjacent island. My current employer will start my application for my H1-B and was thinking about getting my stamp in Canada since is close to where I live (Northeast US) instead of going to Dominican Republic. My plan is that as soon as I get approval (GOD's help) for H1-B go and request a canadian visa so I can go and apply for H1-B Stamp. Has anyone traveled with expired F-1 Visa and H1-B approved to get stamp in canada? How was the experience? How longs does it take? How hard it is to get it? Is it better to go to Dominican Rep? Is anyone from Dominican or any other countries that can share their experience?

Thanks in advanced for all your help.

Hi

I am not sure whether you can go for h1 stamping first time other than your home country.

Change of Status or first time H1B visa stamping Canada or Mexico? H4 to H1B, F1 to H1B etc ? Go to Home Country for visa Stamping? (http://redbus2us.com/change-of-status-or-first-time-h1b-visa-stamping-canada-or-mexico-h4-to-h1b-f1-to-h1b-etc-go-to-home-country-for-visa-stamping/)

see this link.

Please confirm it before going to canada or any other country.

I think that if you have an advanced degree from US you can get it stamped in canada even if its your first time. My brother who has an MS from a US university got it stamped in Canada in Nov 2011 first time stamping.
