Hey there.
I come here in the hopes that someone can point me in the right direction as it seems no one who is actually working within the USCIS actually can.
My family filed for the GC under my mother (who was there as a nurse) about 4 years ago. Our status has been "pending" ever since. And being that without a GC I would have to pay outrageous amounts of money to go to university, I decided to fly the coop and return to Canada where I could afford an education. My mother on other hand, decided to remain stateside and continue working in the U.S.
Here's my problem, I return to the States quite often to visit my mother and friends that I have who live there, and each and every time I am RUDELY hassled by the people at the U.S border. It's a ridiculous waste of my time, and a copious amount of stress for me when I should be on holiday.
My mother and I saw possible problems before I left and took the advice of someone from the USCIS who said to simply send a letter with all of the Alien numbers and the receipt numbers, etc etc, and to indicate my intent of abandoning my application and why.
This of course apparently did absolutely nothing. My status remains unchanged according to their records, and we never received anything to indicate that my letter was taken in and looked at.
So my question is, what the hell do I do?
I am in Canada definitely for at least the next three years. While I have no set plans to return to the States, I would really hate to have that avenue completely removed as I live close to the border and I am going to become a nurse myself.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME?! For the love of pete.
