H1b renewal under Administrative processing

Hi Guys, i am here to find out if other people are also going through the same issue as i am. I came to my home country after 6years in USA on an approved petition to get h1 stamped on my passport. Appeared for interview in July 2011, consular asked for additional employer verification documents (221g), submitted all docs on 1st Aug 2011. Since then my case is under Administrative processing. Every time i call visa office in washington, they have the same answer, its under AP. Is there any other way i can find out what exactly is going on with my case? i provided all the tax docs, pay stubs, employment and client letters etc...but still its taking so long. I was with the same employer since day 1, no visa transfers, never out of work. Any ideas? does it usually take this long?Please share your experiences. Someone suggested me to contact local Senator, is it worth it?

Thanks sac-r-ten. Your link clearly indicates that this 221g is a fairly painful process and majority is suffering from this :( ... i really wish someone from the visa office with an authority goes through these forums and try to change this process for better.
