Hi - my I-94 and visa stamp expired in Apr 2012. I am planning to travel to US virgin islands.
Will I be asked for a visa stamp on my return into the US? I need to book the tickets urgently. Can you please help!!
Thanks

It is part of US and is like travelling to any other states. I personally did not travel to US Virgin Island but I traveled to Alaska and Hawaii on expired visa.

Been there -- done that... Traveled to USVI in 2010 with expired H1-B visa stamp but with approvel H1-B petition and hence I-94. They did ask for it on the way back. They need to see you are legal and valid to return to the US given the proximity of other non-US islands, but do not necessarily need a stamped H1-B in the passport.

Hello,
We traveled to USVI in 2011. My H1 stamp was expired. However, i had I-797 approval notice and the I-94 attached to it.
They do ask for it. They will check the I-797 notice and check validity and let you board the flight from there. The flight here will land at the domestic terminal, hence no immigrations after you land in mainland US.
Ensure you carry all relevant documents - valid passport, valid document to prove legal entry (i.e. if on H1, the I-797).
It is a beautiful place, enjoy the vacation :)
Thanks.
