Change of Citizenship while i485 Pending

Hello Everyone,

I am in a weird situation here. I applied for i485 as EB2-I in Feb 2012 with my wife as dependent. My wife has filed for Canadian Citizenship Application which will process within next 6 months. what happens to her i485 when she becomes a canadian citizen and has a canadian passport?

will her i485 application will still be valid if she enters USA using H4 status (or AP) even though she no longer is Indian Citizen?

I asked my lawyer and he said that he does not know as he has never encountered this situation before.

You may have to update her I-485 application with citizenship information. You may want to call USCIS to find out what will be the procedure. You can also take an infopass.

BTW, the citizenship process for Canada takes an average of 18 months.
