Hi all

I am currently on an H4 visa and have been admitted for a masters program here in US. I am planning to change my status to F1.

My husband's I-140 is approved and we are waiting for the date to be current (which might be few years).

Our concern is - If I change my status from h4 to F1, would it impact our I-485 application. Basically, can I be added on my husband's I-485 application as a dependent even if my visa status at that point might be F1 in US.

Would appreciate your valuable comments.

Thanks

I'm not sure why would you want to change your status to F1 from H4. As far as i know, most of the US universities would let you pursue a masters program under the H4 status and additionally, you would have to pay resident fee and not international student fee.

If you change your status to F1, then first you will be considered a international student and second, you will have to pay astronomically high tuition fee. So reconsider your options and go with the best economical option.

Hi Harry

Thanks for your concern. However i am ok with the option of getting an F1 Visa. But i really want to be sure about the GC processing. If I change my status from h4 to F1, would it impact our I-485 application. Basically, can I be added on my husband's I-485 application as a dependent even if my visa status at that point might be F1 in US.

Thanks

Yes you will still be able to added to your spouses green card process irrespective of your H4/F1 status.
