Yes if the CIR gets tabled, EB people get trampled on by the stampede fo the right-wing and the illegal lobby.
In an attempt to dislodge the bill, the right-wing attach poison pills to for illegals and
EB/H1B and the legislation dies.
Actualy anti- immigration consists of 2 categories.
1) Anti illegals : this is massive
2) Anti illegals and anti-skilled/h1b/eb : this is small actually.
In case of the CIR, both above get united in opposition. In case of a piecemeal 1) and 2) are divided. This even the pro-illegal lobby know.
They know if they allow piecemeal strategy then its even harder. Since EB have no godfather no-one wants to lobby for piecemeal solution.

Friends,
How do you convince far right in politics to the middle? Simple... start with far left and then everyone settles at the middle.
Do President Obama (and democrats) not know that people in this country doesn't accuse him of socialism if he talks about public plan? But, the best way to settle people at low-cost plans runs by non-profit groups is to start with public plan. Even if that happens, it's a win for him.
As it was the first major bill, the big opposition from far right was going to happen. Even if it would have been Bill X, then it would have happened. After all, who likes to loose the power after ruling for 8 yrs? Sour grapes ...
In case of immigration, there will be much more opposition from far right. But that's there bread and butter; so even they cannot help. Pres. Obama knows that "amnesty for all" will never work (similar to public option). It's hard to convince anyone to give premium thing like citizenship just like that. To convince people of giving something to undocumented is to start with far left option and then winning something at the end.
Undocumented workers in future (if become citizen) and their citizen counterparts will become vote bank for the party that helps them achieve their goals. 12 million+ is a strong votebank capable enough to decide power equations in this country. Hence expect a HUGE backlash at CIR..

Well said go_guy123 I especially agree with your "Since EB have no godfather" comment - who is going to stand up against the onslaught from anti-illegals which tend to keep illegals as well as eb skilled workers lumped together (95% of people on the street don't understand the difference) -- and looking at the ongoing health care reform
townhalls its seems so easy to twist the facts and inflame people that I am flabbergasted that this can happen on such an important topic in which everyone has a stake.
My simple point is are these people who are protesting even aware that if they lose their job and their insurance coverage and they have an medical emergency they can go bankrupt, lose their car, house etc - how can they not understand something
that is so self-evident ?
