I am starting this thread here for registered nurse:
Does anybody know if the Registered Nurse category for India is also retrogressed?
Anybody knows of a good lawyer who can help answer questions related to registered nurse green card, please let me know.
Thankyou in advance for all the help.

Registered Nurses are considered as non-technical workers by INS. Due to shortage, the Congress had given them 50,000 visas, which ran out by Jan/Feb 2007.
Right now, RN (Schedule A workers in INS lingo) is merged with EB3 category. So they ARE in retrogression and compete with technical folks such as H1B for visa numbers.
Many people expect that the Congress would add another 50,000 visas for RNs. There is genuine shortage in the nursing field and health industry has truckloads of money to lobby lawmakers.
One problem: The previous 50,000 visas did not go to RN alone. Informal estimate is that only around 10,000 nurses came to the USA using these visas. The rest 40,000 were used up by their family members, resulting in no real advantage for the US. It is expected that the next batch of special visas for RNs might have some provisions to prevent this type of misuse (the scenario is a misuse from the US point of view, you could disagree).

Thanks a lot, thats really useful information.
Do you know when again they will have these Schedule A visa available, as in when they will add the another 50,000 visas? Probably next year?
My wife is planning to do the Nursing course, so want to make sure if it is a viable option to get the green card or not in near future.

Hi man, you want 50,000 visas by 2009. Considered it done. I will sign it by 2009. :) :) :D
Sorry, I was just playing along.
Seriously, no one has any clue when these things would happen. But realistically speaking, they should do some thing about nurses. The demand from cash rich health industry is that much. And no one seems to oppose visas for nurses. Which Congressman has the guts to prevent nurses who will take care of Grandpa, from coming over? So my guess was that they would add some numbers for the nurses.
