It has already been existing in MA for the last few years. Its mandatory to buy Health insurance whose proof you have to file with your taxes. If you don't have Health insurance they deduct from your taxes something ( I think they don't allow a 3000$ deduction - don't exactly know )

I guess they will make it nationwide . It hurts but it has proved effective in making sure that the number of people insured in the state is very high.
