IV have some threads about unrelated issues. But many replied because it is related to home country.

But yesterday many people put funny posts regarding a second time elected CM, made me a bad feeling. Some one want to see his son also want to be killed. It means he want to see YSR family perished. No one put a comment like this when terrorist Kasab went rampage in Mumbai, no one want his family to be killed. This shows Kasab is better than DR. YSR Reddy ???. Educated people must behave responsibly.

If he is bad, no one vote for a second term. First time in AP, Congress CM completed 5 year term and elected for the second term. I don't know him. But reading from the online news, the comments which I have seen is very disturbing. Five people lost their lives. All family members are in a shock. One of the pilots wife is still not talking, becuse of the shock.

Well ... the fact remains "a capacious, larger-than-life persona who was alive yesterday is just no more today?” In matter of seconds he's gone, and nobody could have prevented it, whatsoever.

It's a deeps*** lesson that life is just so unpredictable whoever it is. We just have to live life rather than live ONLY for the very fact that life should get greened one day. I am getting a stronger messages by the way of such news that we should not be “damm” desperate/obsessed/vexed every second for not getting greened as if it were a pill to immortality. Well, lemme give my 2 cents as I am from AP and follow politics very closely...I CAN TELL ONE THING - IF EVERYONE HAS THE SAME FACTS ABOUT SOME ISSUE, ESP. WITH ABOUT A PERSON, EVERYONE PRETTY MUCH COMES TO THE SAME CONCLUSION. So here are some of the facts, some first hand and some knowing by hailing from the area...

I have first hand accounts about the person....There are corrupt guys and then there was YSR...to the extent most of you would not even believe!!! One of my friends was a police officer, and told me that YSR openly used to intimidate them if they did not oblige...

It's funny someone mentioned that he had a vision, democratically elected etc., etc...My other friend comes from the same town as he, and told me how he literally 'ruled' the place with thuggery, force, intimidation, power, etc...

Oh yeah sure he was a doctor...Did he not buy that degree through donation education from Karnataka, during good old days?

Someone mentioned he was self made...He..Hee...He came from a well to do family, and then he made millions more through corruption, mining mafia, land grabbing, etc.

We already have (too much) religious stuff playing politics in India. Instead of separating religion from politics, he took it up a notch...We have govt. paying the hajj pilgrims and now he was trying to have govt. pay for people who visit vatican...Sure, everybody is free to practice his/her own religion, but why should the tax payers pay for these trips?

During the first term, it is a known fact that he allocated tons of treasury resources and govt. projects to his native area, even though other parts of the state desparately needed them...

He sidelined other congress leaders in the state so that he would not have another voice...so much so that even though congress won many more lok sabha seats in AP than in TN, he made sure that no more than one or two MPs from AP become members of central cabinet (compared to 4 or 5 from TN congress and dmk alliance), so that he would not have a rival with power in AP. Forget about the other developmental benefits that AP could have availed by having central cabinet ministers. This is not a speculation, but following the way he ascended in politics, and the way he operates, it's not a rocket science to conclude that...

When real estate in hyd exploded, he had his goons coming from his native place, illegally occupying the private land and govt. land alike. His brother and his goons are forcibly buying private land through intimidation. The sob even issued G.O. retroactively to pretty much legalize and take care of those forcible buyings.

And by the way did I mention how many died since he turned politics into a sort of blood sport in Cuddaph district? People are already talking about making his son the CM. This is height of degeneration...What a pity...

Now you might say, that's how it works in Indian politics, etc...But think about this way...

He was a corrupt guy to the core, governs like a dictator, amasses ill-gotten wealth, eliminates rivals through intimidation and killings...In the process, none of the ordinary people did not have any betterment in their lives over the past 5 yrs. (with the exception of a few of his loyalists) and funny that the Indian new papers (or rather we should call them tabloids) are dubbing him 'Man of the people', etc.

NOW TELL ME IF IT'S NOT A GOOD RIDDANCE, WHAT ELSE IS IT? I am not a proponent of someone dying an untimely death, but I am happy that it's a good riddance from the perspective of seeing an end to these dirty deeds, atleast from one person...I am positive everyone would atleast come to this conclusion...

Some of my friends are from Bihar (CHILDREN OF MP'S, MLA) go home for elections and lead booth capturing. They shared their experience with me.

It's a sad day indeed for India(and AP in particular) to loose a dynamic leader with a vision. Go to every village in Andhra and ask them are they better off now compared to six years ago. YSR did a lot to AP, would have done much more if he lived.
He made money, most of it legally, by establishing companies and getting contracts and positioning them for growth. Everyone had opportunity to do it. He also did a lot for poor people. Show me any other politician in india who had the vision or energy YSR has. Now that he died, it's really sad that we come up with so many things against him.
Look at US media/people, kennedy died last week, did they say everything he got was because he was born as kennedy, he is indeed born into the family and family choose him as a senator when JFK became president. he became senator because of his birth, but he did lot of good, fought for health care, immigration and against war.
It's not how you got the opportunity, but what you did with opportunity. YSR was born in middle class family, he climbed the ladder thru hard work. kennedy was born into wealth/privileage, he used it to further liberty. Yeah, both of them were not perfect, but the good they did outbalances the bad they did. What about all of us, what are we doing, just working in non-descript jobs, are we contributing anything to mankind(apart from our family) or nature?

I'm not a supporter of any political leader or party and you cannot create one politician that satisfies every citizen of its nation. And that's a simple fact. As long as the vast majority of the population is satisfied with the party administration and get some real benefits out it, that's what I call a real political leader and I see YSR as one among them...

It is silly to quote corruption every time you discuss politicians. Show me any major politician of consequence who did not face corruption charges at some time or the other. It is always present in one form or the other since the beginning of politics. We are all watching what is happening with healthcare reform bill here and how powerfull insurance industry is influencing it's outcome.
And who is making these allegations? Surprise, opposition parties and some sections of media that are opposed to him.

I am from AP. And my father had first hand experience getting ripped off by this dead mans cronies when they threatened and grabbed my fathers small plot, that he had bought way back in 89, on the out-skirts of Hyd. All it took was one single threatening phone call to my father and my father signed the sale deed for the land the very next day, not asking a single penny in return. His family was more precious to him than the bloody piece of land. My father worked as a clerk in a central govt office. He is a simple man and has no clout.

I am sad that YSR is dead. I wish he survived but with 3rd degree burns and limped out his miserable life for the next 100 yrs.

They do whatever they can to be in power and in developing countries like India where unfortunately, corrpution still exists. Corrpution exists everywhere in different forms. Few weeks ago, I was watching TV here in US. The monsoon rains arrived late in AP and YSR declares that the rains have come back because he and his party are now in the power.

With a smirk on his face he says that the rain would not come if he had not won the elections.

He also states that the God was happy that he is in the power and blessed all the people with those rains.

As degree college students in Kadapa those days, we were blissfully ideology free. During election season, YSR's people used to offer willing groups of students with jeeps, and money, provided we take part in the campaign in the villages. I remember going on a couple of those trips. We used to visit a village or two till lunch time, and then some one would organize food in one of the villages.Biriyani and stuff. And in the evenings, liquor would be available. In most of the election booths, there would be hardly any voting. The student volunteers and others used to simply rig the votes. In one of the booths, I suggested that not all votes should be polled for YSR as that could disqualify the voting from that booth.And I polled around 25 votes for the BJP candidate. It was a token gesture towards the center right from my side, I suppose.

But in these interactions, we used to hear war stories being swapped by some of the muscle men. A large number of these goons-for-hire were dalits, with their ring leaders being Reddys. There was this time when in a road side tea stall, two men claimed to have killed three people each during the communal riots in Hyderabad. Apparently, people were shipped in lorries from Kadapa and few other places to the Old City, and were given a few hours to wreak havoc.

Covert has documents to prove that there are links between many other projects and companies floated by the Chief Minister’s son Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Covert has a copy of several Board resolutions of this company, confirming that Jagan Mohan Reddy is the director of Raghuram Cements and fully authorised to deal with the financial transactions.

Congress MP V. Hanumantha Rao told Covert, “This boy was nothing in 2004 [when Y.S.R. came to power] and now he has a lot of businesses, two or three companies can be understood, but so many…”

SAKSHI: INVESTMENTS AND REWARDS
Sources said that several of the companies investing in Jagan Mohan Reddy’s pet Sakshi project have been rewarded with other projects. For instance, Hetero Limited that has invested nearly Rs 4 crores in Sakshi, has been allocated a pharmaceutical SEZ at Polyppaly.

The State Government has exploited every loophole to seal this Rs 5,000-crore project that involves the acquisition of 25,000 acres of land in the State.

MAYTAS, SATYAM AND METRO

No rules apply in Andhra Pradesh under Chief Minister Reddy, who wilfully orders officials to clear deals and projects in violation of all laws. The link between the Congress and Satyam’s Ramalinga Raju, who is now under arrest for a major corporate scam, is established through the manner in which the bid for the multi-crore Hyderabad Metro Rail project was finalised, and the rules totally violated with full connivance of the Reddy Government.

WAQF LAND SOLD ILLEGALLY

Chief Minister Y.S.R. Reddy is also presiding over what sources describe as the completely illegal selling off of Waqf property in the State. There is a long list of cases where prime Waqf land has been sold for a pittance, with others getting the bulk of the money. In what is a classic case reflecting rampant corruption, 100 acres of Waqf property at Manakonda village was acquired by the State Government and sold to an infrastructure firm Lanco at throwaway prices

The editor of Siyasat, the Hyderabad-based Urdu daily, Zaheeruddin Ali Khan told Covert that Lanco made a profit of Rs 10,000 crores on this property that was acquired from the Wakf Board at a price of just Rs 60 crores.
