Hi All,

The USCIS clinic I had been to does not have chicken pox vaccine and are not sure when they will get one. The Dr. said that they cant do anything about it and can write on the form that no vaccination was available. But she was not sure how USCIS would decide on this comment. Has anyone run into similar situation? What are my options in this scenario?

Thanks

The CP vaccine is a snake oil. It doesn't work well against CP. Don't worry.

Only MMR and TD are applicable for the age group you r in.
Chicken Pox is not applicable for adults.

For me also it happen same. Doctor told me to go county office and get vaccine and bring the paper work to them.

Unfortunately I went to county office and they told they can give chickenpox vaccine on same day of MMR. Then I called USCIS clinic and told them the situation and they said they will arrange vaccine for me today.

Before actully try to give you the vaccine they would have you take a blood test to find chicken pox antigens...if they found no antigens in your system..only then you need to take the vaccine...if you are not pregnant...

No they did blood test only for HIV and Syphillis. Dr wanted us to take chicken pox vaccine anyways.

Request a new blood test for chicken pox antibodies , it costs more but you can do it. However the blood test will turn to your favor only if you had chicken pox during childhood.
Other option is to get the vaccine from other hospital which has the vaccine and show that report to your immigration doctor.
All the best !

My doctor asked me if I had chicken pox during my child hood. I said yes, so Varicella is not required.

If I say no, the it is required.

Which means that if you get in your childhood then you won't get it again. Thats what my doctor said. Please check with your doctor.

During the medical exam, say that you had chikenpox during the childhood. If he asks further questions, tell it was around 5; my mother told me.

Read this (from another of 'them' web site):
They have lot leverage in certifying what is needed, what is not needed. My INS doc, just wanted only 2. DTAp and MMR. The kind and nice medical staff told this over the phone. This is all we need for adults. For children , yes, entire vaccination record. You see, medically vaccinations are useless for adults, as the tissues / organ needed for generating immunity is mostly lost during growth to adolescence.(that is what vaccinations do .. these are only booster doses)

MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS FOR THE ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS APPLICATION

Every applicant for adjustment of status must undergo a complete medical examination by a doctor designated by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). To obtain a listing of doctors, approved by the USCIS, in your area, call 1-800-375-5283.

In accordance with the 1996 Act, all applicants for adjustment of status must prove that they have been vaccinated against vaccine preventable diseases. This requirement can be waived under either of the following two conditions: (1) a civil surgeon or similar official certifies that such vaccination would not be medically appropriate; or (2) the requirement of such vaccination is contrary to an applicant's religious beliefs or moral convictions.

To comply with the vaccination requirement, you must present a Supplement for Form I-693 in which a civil surgeon certifies one of the following:

1. You are in full compliance with the vaccination requirement;
2. You lack certain vaccines but are eligible for a "not medically appropriate" waiver; or
3. You have religious or moral reasons for refusing the vaccine.

My doctor said that I need to take another MMR shot in the period of 60 days from now, thats the requirement for that vaccine. Has anyone heard the same?

Take the printout from the link elsewhere and tell doctor that you need the sealed report immediately.

Attention: everyone. Call and talk howmany MMRs you need. If they say 2, cite the CDC adult immunization guidelines. If they don't agree shop around for another doctor.

Best yet, ask your HMO/PCP doctor to test if you have immunity for MMR. the results are out in one day. HMO pays. take that to INS doctor.

Be wise.

I think this is BS, I produced a letter that I got from India that I had MMR back in 2004. My doctor accepted it and said no need of MMR.

Hi ,
Myself and my husband took the Medical exam 15 days back in Minneapolis. The Dr. told that for Varicella ie Chicken Pox alone INS accepts if we have a history of having got Chicken Pox. We both have had CP when we were young so she just wrote VH(Varicella Histroy) and left it. Moreover for MMR also we asked the Dr to do titers(ie a blood test to see if we have been already vaccinated). She did it and we found we have been vaccinated. We didn't want get vaccinated for MMR bcos we are trying to get pregnant. So someone in a similar situation can get the titers done for MMR bocs u can't conceive for 1 or 2 months after MMR. Moreover a lot of people from India I suppose have been vaccinated for MMR.We just don't have the papers.

By the by the Dr. we went is in St.Paul. Her name is Sara Velasco. They charge $195 .But u get the reports really soon within 4-5 days.

Guys,

I have just finished taking the vaccinations

MMR ( 1 dose for adults )
TdaP
Varicella ( chicken pox ) , another dose next month ( because i didnt have chicken pox as a kid )

My primary care doctor administered these for me , they are covered 100% by my insurance , i just had to pay the $20 co-pay and was lucky to get an appointment with my PCP.
and i paid $250 for the medical report.

My PCP told me that its very important to take these if possible

chicken pox - because if adults contract it , it will be a lot severe than kids getting it
I have known people who didnt get it as a child and they GOT it after they came here ( after travelling to countries that have chicken pox cases )

I had chicken pox when i was a child they still checked my blood for antigen levels and my levels came to be 1.03 and 1.09 is acceptable. They insist I need to take the vaccine, but I cannot take it since I am pregnant. So basically this whole medical thing is a doctor to doctor thing they don't follow any rules.

My doctor asked me if I had chicken pox during my child hood. I said yes, so Varicella is not required.

If I say no, the it is required.

Which means that if you get in your childhood then you won't get it again. Thats what my doctor said. Please check with your doctor.

how you handle the doctor's questions on varicella.

If you had varicella (or chckenpox) during childhood, no vaccines is needed. Otherwise, 2 vaccines - one month apart. So, it depends on how you answer. You know what I mean.

It is quite common in India, almost all would have contracted it at one time or other.

I just had my physical done. The only vaccinations required are the ones for MMR and polio. Other immunizations are recommended, not required, I was told. Plus, you also need to get your blood tested for TB (followed with the chest X-ray if the test is +ve), HIV, and Syphilis.
