SSN to limit Healthcare benefits

Just read this piece from WSJ..
Senator Says Bill Sets Limits on Immigrants
One statement did raise my brow..

"...Members of the Senate Finance Committee met Friday, and Sen. Kent Conrad (D., N.D.) said they wanted to use Social Security numbers to ensure that illegal immigrants weren't eligible for subsidies envisioned as part of a plan to expand health coverage..."

Just like the stimulus package, this one will knowingly or indavertently leave out several H4 who are all legal but are not eligible for SSN... If we believe we do not need to influence helathcare debate.. we may be wrong.. and it could be late... For some reason the legislators equate SSN to legality.. when they should know better. There are illegals here on have SSN....

Anyone worried similarly?

Well, not really - because everyone who is on legit H1b have full time job and employers who hire on people on H1b generally provide pretty decent insurance options which also cover spouse and children.


Unless you are talking about H1b hamal who are like day workers moving from one client to another and whose body-shopper doesn't provide them insurance coverage.
