Divorce before the green card arrives

A couple applied for the green card together. But now they are experiencing some marital problems in their relationship and they wish to separate. Their green card is supposed to arrive in a month's time. If they get divorced before the green card arrives,will there be any complications in their green card? Or should they wait for the green card and then get divorced after the green card arrives?
