H1 Extension urgent Please help me

Hi,

1. My six years of H1B ending in 10/31/2009 including gaps.
2. Due to USCIS mistake(or my mistake) when we have applied for H1B(COS from L1B to H1B) in 2007, they gave upto 9/30/2010.
3. so based on that my I94 & Visa expire on 9/30/2010
4. I have I140 approval(Approved in Jan 2009)

Now my question is do I need to apply for extension as I am completing 6 years in 10/31/2009.

Please help me.

My Green card is in the processing and H1B is due for renewal in few months.
I am on H1b for 4 1/2 years by now. I heard that having H1b status helps to be in safe side if anything goes wrong with GC. Do I need to renew my H1B or work on EAD?

Please give me pros and cons of it.
