I have been to cruise from SanDiago to Mexico using AP. No issues while boarding or coming back.

While coming back we sort of go through immigration process where the immigration officers board the ship and you need to go to them before getting off. They were fine with AP. Please also note that no one collects your I94 while boarding and you do not get a new I94 on your way back.

Thanks Mitesh. Sounds like the I94 will not change and there will be no stamping for AP. So just carrying passport and AP is enough, right?

my wife and i went through a cruise to mexico from long beach and to caribbean from miami and both times we had to go through immigration when we returned.

they always put you in secondary processing and the officers were slow. you gotta be patient and let them do their thing. in long beach the officers made a copy of my AP, in miami, they took the second copy of AP (so i now have only 1 original). they also took our old I-94s and issued us new ones.

i guess your experience may vary by port, but they have the same immigration officers at ports like they do at airports and know how to process advanced parole.

the cruise company will ask you for a valid US visa before getting on. ours are expired, i just showed them AP. they went to their supervisor to confirm its validity and had no issues with it.

i even carry all misc. documents (my both h1b papers, my wife's h1b papers), paystubs, a letter from the company indicating i'm still employed with them. i have never been asked for it at any airport or seaport but i always carry as a backup.

if and when i ever get GC, i look forward to 3 things:
1. not carrying a crap load of paper everytime i go through border
2. not being subjected to secondary processing. i have seen criminals there once.
3. getting a "welcome back" greeting from the officer.

From my experience that should be enough. However, as the post above refers YMMV. I would advice you to carry your H1 documents also for "just in case" scenario.

My husband is the primary applicant for green card. We do have our EAD & AP documents. Is there any issue using the AP while entering the country (if I am not employed)? All these years I had an H1-B and now I have EAD & AP. I've never entered the country using AP so I am a bit worried.

Has anyone had any issues while entering the country on AP?
