I have around 13 years of experience in IT. I am planning to change my career from a principal programmer to a project manager next year. How would be the green card processing if I join as a manager without prior experience as managar. Do we still need managerial experience to file green card as a manager? Can it be filed under the following 5 options
1- Optional special handling
2 - Outstanding ability
3- Extraordinary ability
4 - Schedule A exceptional ability
5 - National interest waiver

First, you need to see what is the requirements for the job. Labor is applied based on the job requirements and not personal experiences. If the job requires a bachelor's degree with at least 5 yrs of exp. or a master's degree then you qualify for EB-2. If not it would be EB-3.

There is no special category for green card for managers. If the job does not require managerial experience, then you can still be a manager.

Typically, the 5 options you have mentioned is related to research work. You may not qualify for them based on the job you are mentioning.

You may need to get some 101 on the green card process.

Nowadays project management is considered as experianced (non management category) a professional level work (the certification clearly says project management professional). Or just leads/masters (in scrum).

Thanks guys for your responses.
I am not yet decided(in a dilemma) to take PM position in another company or just continue in same job. My present company has not yet filed my green card and even if they do they would not do it in EB2. I may get into another company as PM or Tech Lead and I am not sure which one is better for me.The company I may join will do green card in EB2.

I dont know why somebody gave me red on my original post.

what about EB1 category, did you see if you would qualify as a manager for a company. So many people get their GC in EB1 category as well.......

You may be right. But it depends on the company I guess. I have masters and more than 10 years of exp, but the company which hires should have a position that qualifies me for EB1.What are the qualifications we need to have for EB1.
