It's risky, but if you have no option go for it. I did it ( I got my visa stamped for a renewal of my H1B in my national country) and was able to return to the U.S without problems.
The point is: there is not guarantee you'll get your visa approved at the consulate. As far as I know they usually dot deny these kind of renewals, but you have to go being aware that there is certain level of risk.
