Unhappy I485 application with customs violation

Hi,

i am about to file I-485 form. The questionnaire for AOS has a question about specifying if I was ever convicted or fined for violating any law. I was fined $175 once while entering US for failure to declare that i have pickled gooseberries in my bag. Do I need to declare it? Has any one with such kind of case filed I485 and got it approved? I would greatly appreciate if some one can answer this question.

Thanks in advance.

You may want to check with an attorney on this. Are you filing by yourself or using an attorney?

I dont know exactly what he has advised...but one of the advise might be, not to bring in any more gooseberry pickle. The price is too high...

May be that pickle is too damn good to pay any price )) sometimes you need to straighten up your priority Pickle or Green Card...sometimes Pickle wins!
Anyhow, I was just curious about what would be a solution after damage is done.

I never understand the rationale behind this...I have seen people bringing in onion, potato :-) from India...no wonder why the airlines are reducing the package. One time the check in counter people at Chennai airport asked ‘what’s wrong with me…as I didn’t have much package’.

Onions/potatos/ any seeds (including pulses/fruits) even yogurt culture (dahi) is never allowed in any country because it can 'potentially spoil' the crop/agriculture of immigrating country. Remember, the worst weeds: congress grass & lantana came to india when india imported wheat from china ?. Now, its a big nuisance everywhere......seeds in powdered form/flour/masalas pickles/ fried form, are restricted may bepermissible....I think there is a reason to do so.
