Default New PERM Application

Hi Friends,

My company (a 2 bllion dollar US company) just had me fill a questionnaire so that I can start my PERM process. My questions and apprehensions:

1.) My company did not give me a case number. The HR just said we have started the process.

2.) PERM means getting a case number and a Priority Date or just posting ads here and there?

3.) They didn't ask for any supporting docs, just asked to fill a questionnaire.

How do I get a case number and PD or we can PERM without these also? Is PERM and LC same thing or what?

Thanks a lot as always.

Dude/Dudette, this is the first step to collect information about you. They need to prepare a case which they can file, only then you get your receipt number which you can use to track your app status. You have atleast 4 to 6 months before you reach that stage. Answer the questionnaire ASAP.

Thanks for the reply geevikram.

I filled the questionnaire and gave them 2 weeks ago. So, you mean to say that after filling the questionnaire, they will post ads etc and they will be able to file PERM only after 6 months?

^^
Friend - I did a lot of googling and read about the PERM process but sometimes you get some other info from the HR and it's always good to confirm. That's the whole purpose of having a forum - to discuss one's doubts - whether big or small.

I didn't get your IT point.

Hello Friends,

I'm in the process of filing my PERM and obtaining my employment verfication and experience letters.

No company gives an experince letter with all the job roles, projects, technology work upon. What are my options?

1.) Does the experience letter have to be on a company letter head?

2.) Can I take job description letters from project managers, friends? Does it have to be on company letter head?

Thanks.

You can get letter from your previous colleagues still working for those companies vouching your work experience. I have vouched a friend of mine. I did in 2007. Now the trend of PERM has changed a lot. Better check with your lawyer.

Yes the letter should be on the company letter head. Some time they accept letters from your previous managers too.

Good luck.

When I filed my PERM, except for one of my managers, all previous managers had left their jobs and moved on. Therefore:

1. The experience letter needs to be on a company letter head, but not necessarily the letterhead of the company that you (and your supervisor) were in. It must be on the letterhead of the company that your supervisor is in right now.
2. The experience letter MUST be from someone who actually has managed you. An experience letter from friends, family or others who have not officially supervised / managed you cannot be used for the PERM. Regarding repeat question about the letterhead: irrelevant if it isn't from your supervisor. Also: see point #1.

Hope this helps.

(Usual disclaimer about not being a lawyer and all that)
