Default Changing employers 6th year of H1b - approved I-140

My H1B started in Oct 2007 and the 6 years are going to expire in Sept 2013. Last year, I applied for GC with my firm in EB3. My I-140 was approved last month.

If I switch jobs now, can my new employer file for my H1B extension as my I-140 has been approved by my current employer? Or does the I-140 need to be approved for the employer who is filing for the H1B extension?

Thanks in advance for any advice
