did your wife filed I-485?
If she has filed I-485 then you can switch using AC-21 otherwise your new employer has to file your H1B extension... Without I-485 for your wife, she will be out of status and she to go back to her home country..

I-765 May 19th Filed - Approved on Sept. 5th 2008 (110th day) after two visits to local office and two expedited requests to USCIS.
