Question Hawaii Cruise

I am planning to go on a Hawaii cruise on the Norwegian Cruise line ship (Pride of America) which is registered in the US. My H1-B visa has expired but my I-94 is valid. The Cruise ship only visits islands in Hawaii and embarks/disembarks in Hawaii.

Do I need to worry about my visa stamping or just the Passport with valid I-94 and drivers license should suffice?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Default my experience

i am not a lawyer, so what i state here is from my personal experience. i have been to hawaii on an H1B 3 years ago. there was absolutely no problem anywhere. its like flying to any of the 48 mainland states. no one asked for passports anywhere ( i did not even carry it).
I ofcourse flew to hawaii, but i have taken cruises to mexico.

as long as the cruise ship does not touch a foreign port, you are good. check with the cruise company if they need a passport. they usually have info on what is required. before entering the ship, your papers are checked and if there is something needed for immigration when you return(like from mexico), they wont let you in until you show them the documents.

since you are boarding from US, visiting an US state, coming back to US, there should be no problem.

Default common sense

I am not trying to be rude. but really we should use some common sense. If you are visiting another state within US why would you need a visa? If you are still not sure check with the cruise ship customer service.

All i am trying to say is do not post a question until you have put some effort to get your answer by yourself.

Before posting this did you even think that the ship may be crossing international waters and US immigration laws may not hold good in that region? Were you not too quick to judge one's competency?

Don't you think the person going on a cruise should make an effort to check this out with the cruiseline?

Many of you have probably been to niagara falls and been on the boat that takes you close the falls. If the boat by mistake goes even an inch over the canada side of the water, they will check your passports and visas before letting you into US side.

Default On a lighter note

This one was posted originally at http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/ar...p/t-20450.html. Just replace USVI with Hawaii.

USVI is a US territory hence, you will be able to fly in with the drivers license. They do not take your I 94 back. Just to make sure you are in US territorial waters, don't swim or wade out more than 5 feet out in the water. You could be swimming in international waters without proper US exit authorization. Your entry to shore could be subject to unauthorized landing. A water tight bag lugged around your fanny with passport/I94/H1B/paystubs/employer letters/DL(Driver License)/EAD(Employment Authorization Document)/AP(Advanced Parole)/receipts/etc etc. should keep you safe though. Just keep it away from the sharks. Enjoy your vacation.

There is nothing wrong with the OP's question. The response from couple of wiseguys is jsut flat out annoying. My only concern with the cruise is to wait for a while until the economy rebounds.

Default Norwegian Cruise ship only travels in US Waters..so DL is fine

I did the same cruise with just Drivers License.

As ship travels in US waters no need to have VISA Stamping...

Unlike Alaska cruise ships leave US waters and enters Internationa waters, so you need VISA.

Cheers.

I am not sure what purpose do we serve by being rude to somebody on the forum. People might not be as savvy about immigration as some of the regulars here and it never hurts to ask.

From my owen experience, I went to Puerto Rico and everybody told me you dont need a passport to go there. While boarding the plane back from PR, a couple of CBP guys acame and started asking everybodies citzenship and then asked me to show them the visa. So it never hurts to be safe, even when u are travelling to a remote state or territory.

OP has asked a simple question, If you can answer it in simple manner do it. If not do not even respond to it.

If you think you are real smart then act like one instead posting you irrelavant comments here.

My friends took a vacation is US VI and they have full inspections there.YOu better have your documents with you in person

http://www.usvi.net/us-ins/html/2travel_back_....html

Traveling Back to Puerto Rico and the Continental United States

Due to the location of the territory, the United States Virgin Islands has a pre-clearance inspection process for all flights from the territory to destinations in Puerto Rico or the Continental United States.

Default Pride of America Hawaii Cruise

Can anyone confirm that only Driver License is required for this cruise? NCL told me so, but I’d like to hear from someone who already sailed. Also, do you have to go through Customs or Immigration upon returning? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
