i am not a lawyer, so what i state here is from my personal experience. i have been to hawaii on an H1B 3 years ago. there was absolutely no problem anywhere. its like flying to any of the 48 mainland states. no one asked for passports anywhere ( i did not even carry it).
I ofcourse flew to hawaii, but i have taken cruises to mexico. as long as the cruise ship does not touch a foreign port, you are good. check with the cruise company if they need a passport. they usually have info on what is required. before entering the ship, your papers are checked and if there is something needed for immigration when you return(like from mexico), they wont let you in until you show them the documents. since you are boarding from US, visiting an US state, coming back to US, there should be no problem. -sk |

I am not trying to be rude. but really we should use some common sense. If you are visiting another state within US why would you need a visa? If you are still not sure check with the cruise ship customer service.
All i am trying to say is do not post a question until you have put some effort to get your answer by yourself.

Don't you think the person going on a cruise should make an effort to check this out with the cruiseline? Many of you have probably been to niagara falls and been on the boat that takes you close the falls. If the boat by mistake goes even an inch over the canada side of the water, they will check your passports and visas before letting you into US side.

This one was posted originally at http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/ar...p/t-20450.html. Just replace USVI with Hawaii.
USVI is a US territory hence, you will be able to fly in with the drivers license. They do not take your I 94 back. Just to make sure you are in US territorial waters, don't swim or wade out more than 5 feet out in the water. You could be swimming in international waters without proper US exit authorization. Your entry to shore could be subject to unauthorized landing. A water tight bag lugged around your fanny with passport/I94/H1B/paystubs/employer letters/DL(Driver License)/EAD(Employment Authorization Document)/AP(Advanced Parole)/receipts/etc etc. should keep you safe though. Just keep it away from the sharks. Enjoy your vacation. ![]() ![]()

I did the same cruise with just Drivers License.
As ship travels in US waters no need to have VISA Stamping... Unlike Alaska cruise ships leave US waters and enters Internationa waters, so you need VISA. Cheers. |

From my owen experience, I went to Puerto Rico and everybody told me you dont need a passport to go there. While boarding the plane back from PR, a couple of CBP guys acame and started asking everybodies citzenship and then asked me to show them the visa. So it never hurts to be safe, even when u are travelling to a remote state or territory.

Can anyone confirm that only Driver License is required for this cruise? NCL told me so, but I’d like to hear from someone who already sailed. Also, do you have to go through Customs or Immigration upon returning? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
