H1b to H4

Hi,

I want to change my status from H1b to h4. Is it safer to change the status through filing COS from US or going out of country and getting h4 stamped?

How many days are ok to stay without pay stubs?

If I apply for H4 visa and go out of country without approval, is it possible to still get h4 stamping and re-enter US?

What are the documents I need to submit for COS from h1 to h4?
