Default F1 to Permanent Residency?

Hello All,
I have been on F1 visa for 1 year and in good status. I have a US citizen son(had him before I came to the US for the Masters program). I want to have some form of permanent residency not necessarily a work-based one. Current Job situation in the US is not that good and I have better opportunity in my home country. I want to have this for the benefit of my son so that we can be able to come to the US at least 6monthly for him to have some attachment to the US. I have 2 years before the VISA run out.
I have seen on one of the numerous immigration forms that you can apply after 1 year of staying in the US. But I am not sure though; it is a confusing maze of different forms to fill.
So I am asking for some advice. Please help ASAP!!

In order to get a green card, you need to either apply using your employer (once you finish your school) or your family (if they are U.S citizens) should sponsor you. There is no avenue to apply while you are a student except the 2 methods I mentioned above.
