Arrow USPS Express Mail International to INDIA

Hi,

I sent visa sponsorship documents for my parents using USPS Express Mail International service. This is the URL of this service.

USPS - Express Mail International

The postal clerk told me that it should take 3 - 5 days to reach india. It is already over a week and documents are yet not delivered. The online tracking only shows that documents have left USA but no other updates.

Is there anyone who used this service? How many days did it take? Any feedback?

Greatly appreciate your help!

What ever way you send it through USPS..be it priority or express...it takes anytime between 2 weeks and 4 weeks to reach the destination.

The rule is to add + 2weeks for any USPS delivery international. I have not had any issues of misplaced documents or packages so far..just delayed. I have sent stuff to India about 5-6 times.

I have recently used it (in March) for the same purpose (sponsorship documents for in-laws). I was told 7 business days and it reached pretty much as promised. The destination was Mumbai (dont know if that makes a difference).

I would say give it a total of 10 business days and then contact USPS.

Recently I sent a letter using First Class mail. Paid 98 cents and it reached in less than 10 days.

Well You don't have to worry.

The express mail system is much better now. You should see "many entries" suddenly in one or two days. It will go to the destination within 10 days (holidays not counted).

What you chose is 'Express mail international'. Time mentioned is just an estimate not guaranteed.

There is another service called Global express guaranteed ( USPS - Global Express Guaranteed ). If you choose this service then delivery time is guaranteed. If they fail to deliver by committed time they will return the money back and they will initiate case to find and deliver your mail asap. However, committed time varies from place to place. This service is offered by uSPS in association with FedEx, so similar service should be available in FedEx too.

I used Global express Guaranteed service about two weeks ago and the documents reached in 3 days. It is little cheaper than going directly to FedEx but delivered by FedEx
If you want complete tracking, follow these:

1. Use the USPS online to pay and print mailing labels. Be truthful about the weight as you have to take to the Post Office later.
(Tip: when printing the labels, print as PDF or print two copies)

2. Take the labels and documents to the nearest post office that delivers GFX(shown at the end of printing)

3. Be sure to use the GFX envelope and NOT any other envelope. Ask the clerk and confirm. It has similar plastic area similar to FedEx envelopes to put the labels

4. There will be 4 copies of the labels. One of them is a FedEx copy and has the FedEx tracking number. Use it on FedEx website to track.

(Forget about USPS tracking which is daily summary from FedEx and not detailed enough or up to date)

Benefits: FedEx fast delivery. USPS lower rate (about $20 difference in my case).

Default it may take upto 2-3 weeks

it generally take 2-3 weeks to reach India, depends on which part of India you are sending to.

It reaches India in 2-3 days, and then it will take ages to move from customs and then to the Indian Postal dept and could hit snag like rail / road strike etc etc which are typical to India or ur home state or city/town.

I had send same set of docs last month. it took 18 days to reach my in-Laws. using Global Priority mail.

I have used USPS numerous times sending through Global Priority. It takes 5 days for New Delhi. Add 5 to 6 days for other places.

Nothing typical about India. It happens here too. I do receive mails through Speedpost from India. It reaches US (usaully Newark) right on time and then takes a week to get delivered to Boston. A regular domestic mail moves faster then that

Yes, It was 7 business days for express mail, it will take 3-5 days, if it is Global express mail, I have used both of the services for different purposes and in both the cases it was accurate (as said above), by the way the destination is Hyderabad, it might take day or 2 more in case small towns.

Thanks everyone for posing your replies to my query. My documents are sent to a non-metro city, so I would wait atleast 7 - 8 business days (and not calendar days) before pressing the panic button.

Thanks once again to all my friends who replied.

Default arrived in "RUSSIA" ???

Bummer!!!

The shipment yet not reached India, but there is an update in online tracking.

It says shipment arrived in "RUSSIA" after these many days. My first reaction... WHY RUSSIA?

I double checked the receipt if for any weird reason I put russia instead of India - but that is not the case. I have the carbon copy and it has my correct address of INDIA. Also in the special box for coutry it is clearly marked as INDIA. I assume that this is not mistake but just a break journey at RUSSIA. I am atleast little relieved that the documents are atleast trackable and not completely lost.

On other hand, I don't know why postal clerk told me 3 - 5 days delivery though.

Those of you who have earlier expereince, do you remember if your shipment also travelled via Russia? Is this a normal route for USPS to send documents to INDIA?
