Unhappy Health Care Reform rings the death toll for any immigration reform

I knew it was gonna happen, first it was horses, now its health....

"
Health Care First Or Last

Sen. Schumer, the Chair of the Senate Immigration Subcommittee, has cancelled his earlier Labor Day deadline for the first draft of the CIR bill. What is even more worrisome, he has not given any target date, and some speculate that his next target date is Easter 2010. If this is true, Mr. Schumer may as well declare that those waiting for immigration relief can forget it – for this Congress and for many more to come. "

This is it....over to 2011(for suckers who still believe that it will be done in 2011). 2010 being an election year nothing this radioactive will be done.

I would say don't put too much emphasis on these kind of stories, if the CIR bill is not going to be worked on then why did the senator schedule this meeting ? just for fun ?!

I am not optimistic that something will come out real soon, but at the same time, I think something will definitely happen, at least the piece meal approach

Arrow My Predictions...

Immigration Reform will follow 'Health Care' Bill. But the real hurdle for 'Health Care reform' is inclusion of Illegal Immigrants in the bill. No one can dare say that loud that they want to 'include' illegal immigrants because that will hurt any chances of passing the Health Care bill.

So, if they start the CIR discussions out in the public, the 'illegal immigrants' turning into 'legal' and hence eligible for 'health care' issue will be the highlight of ALL NEWS channels. That will do damage to health care. I'm sure unless & until health care reform is through, they can't get any details of CIR out to public.( I'm sure CIR includes Amnesty at the least )

That said, 'Donkeys' are bound to loose in next year mid-term if Obama does not live up to their pre-poll promises. Remember, Hispanics & other minorities are the edge for 'Donkeys' while some independents can weigh in either ways.

So, bottom line is CIR will pass after health care. But, I'll not bet too much on provisions for 'legal immigrants'. Since we are the only dog bone that 'Donkeys' have got to gain any required support for CIR. We need to work hard to get our provisions on the first draft and do everything possible to be included in the final version of the bill.

My ramblings anyways....

Default I was thinking in the samelines

about so much uproar and fighting about not letting illegal immigrants have healthcare.
Dems even explicitly stated in the bill that no illegals will be eligible for the benefit.
They must be laughing inside because after the CIR, there will be not many illegals left.

Anyway just an observation.

It is done mainly for PR purposes. He knew CIR wont happen. But he will now get excuse to say: I tried but the republicans didn't cooperate on health care and so we didn't get time.

Plus since CIR doesn't pass, he can go to the independents and say .....we didn't pass amnesty. He gets to play both sides.

"discussion", "debate", "study" , "meeting" these are code words for doing
nothing.

You are right on target....EB2/3 reform is the only bone that CIR lobby has to get
support for CIR. And they will hold EB2/3 reform hostage till that time.
