Passport Renewal VFS Washington

I am planning to apply for the re-issuance of passport ..and have a few questions reg the application proces..

Passport application
11. When did applicant first leave India ? I check with two reps at the Indian passport service- One said should fill in the date when you left India for the very first time...second agent said it is the date when you last left India...

Not sure which one to trust..

12. How long has applicant continuously resided abroad? Both reps said - write accululated time from the time you left India for the very first time...

in Verification of Nationality Form

11. Date of leaving India? They said date when you first left India
12. Period of stay? The accumulated time.

This passport application seems like a battle for me...plz help!

Anybody with experience in "splitting names" while applying?

Would really appreciate any help in this!!!

12. how much you stayed there in the year...!!!
mean total days of stay out from india in one year...!!! most long period ever you stayed out of india ...!!!

I have got the confirmation from USPS yesterday (April 8, 2013) that my passport package i mailed was received at

India Passport Application Centre – Washington DC
1625 K Street NW, Suite 103 Washington, DC 20006.

I have applied through the regular process, for passport re-issue after 10 year expiration.
What is the current processing time ? Normally after how many days will they send the confirmation email that they started processing my application ?
What is the chances that they will order a police verification in India, i mean will they do it for every case ?
If anybody has done the same recently, please share your experience..
It would be greatly appreciated.

I got the application package returned to me yesterday (04/09/2013), on the prepaid envelope that i send for sending the new passport..
saying that i needed to add the affidavit document for change in Appearance. I send it back yesterday itself using fedex overnight at 7:45pm (04/09/2013) and it was received today in the morning at 9:46am.

At 11:10am i got the application Accepted email from VFS stating that my application has been accepted and issued an Application reference number.

Now the status is saying that:

10/04/2013
Application received at the EOI Application Centre, Application Center,Washington DC on 10/04/2013.

So far things are moving very fast.
I hope the embassy wont give me too much trouble in renewing it.

16/04/2013 Your processed passport is ready for the courier company to pick up 16/04/2013.

Now waiting for the passport to arrive in the courier.

I received my new passport on 04/17/2013.

• It's now renewed for 10 years.
• No police verification was done back in India.
• My original passport was issued from Trivandrum post, Kerala in 2003.

So it took a total of 8 days for My Indian passport to be renewed/ reissued at the Washington DC post, through the option of MAILING.
Its a very quick process from the Indian embassy.
Thanks to VFS and DC Indian Embassy.
