Minister of Overseas Indians coming to DC

Mr. Vayalar Ravi , Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs,is coming to USA on June 27,2006. He is coming to Washington DC on July 4 to meet Indian Ambassador and Indian community. We should try to meet him personally and explain the problems we are facing. He can talk to US counterparts and do something for us.

Let us organize an event to meet him on July 4. Since It is a holiday, lot of people can meet him and chat with him.

Any comments from IV Core Team ? Can we contact Indian Ambassador to arrange a meeting with the minister ? is it possible ?

I agree .. this should be tried. I do not know heard about this minister before,
my apologies but by title of Ministry he seems to be a appropriate to apprach
for help.

Vayalar Ravi will know more about Indians in Gulf. He is form Kerala and his main focus is Indians in Gulf coutnries. While I dont mean say he is partial to them or any such thing, I think he will understan those issues better than ours.


No harm in trying. Not sure if we will get anything out of it.
It may be worthwhile to talk to an IAS officer accompnaying him rather than the minister himself.

he will be glad to know that we can't stay here, becausre there is huge demand in India for most of our skill set.

The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs is headed by Vayalar Ravi, who has the rank of a Cabinet Minister. On the administrative side, a Secretary to the Government of India heads the Ministry.

Presently, the Ministry is organized into three functional divisions and three functional units. Of the three Divisions, two are headed by Joint Secretaries. They are the Diaspora Services Division and the Financial Services Division.

The Protector General of Emigrants (PGoE) heads the Overseas Employment Services Division. The Social Services Unit and the Management Services Unit are staffed with officers of the rank of Deputy Secretary. The Information Services Unit is headed by the Senior Technical Director (NIC).

Mr Vayalar Ravi is a good politician. He is very reasonable and educated person from Kerala. He was a lawyer by profession. He can understand our problems !

I don't agree with 'eb3india'. Don't be on negative attitudes. Negative thinking will not gain anything. Think positive !

India Government will listen to us because;

1) If you stay here in USA, you will send money to your parents and relatives.
They will spend money and improve indian economy.

2) If you stay here and become rich, you may start a busness in india and employ indians and indian economy will grow.

3) You may invest in houses and properties in india.

So, If you continue to work in US and make money, Indian economy will grow
indirectly. Did you get my point ? Mr Vayalar Ravi knows this very well. He knows the earning potential on NRIs in US.

Wake up guys, i am not being negative, i am just being positive,

the points that you mentioned applies to US economy, I Myself is playing very important role in Multi-million $$ product,

do you think US politicians care about us, they just showed straight finger, if you don't get then it'z not my problem

The only way we can get any thing out of these politicans by playing politics, show them the meat, we need to figure that out

One thing always worked is MEDIA, we need to get more attention on national media

There is no harm in trying different possibilities. Media is a good option.Also,
contacting indian ministers and government is not a bad idea at all. They may be able to help us ! it is better to try , rather than doing nothing !

For Indian immigrants in DC, this is a great opportunity. There are things Vayalar Ravi can do for you.

1. One major issue is totalization agreement between USA and India so that you can enjoy social security money which you paid into the system here. If the Government is so concerned about NRIs, this is the first thing they have to do.

2. NRIs can not buy Agricultural land in India. Ask him why not? Local builders buy the agri land, rezone it and sell it to you for a profit. Why is Indian Government protecting middle men?

Think of some more. You will get them.

1) Retrogression.
2) Social Security Treaty.

I think VISA retrogression problem can be addressed to the minister. That itself will give BIG relief to thousands of people from India.Make a special VISA Quota for India is another good option. Minister can suggest this option to the US Officials and Senators ! He is scheduled to meet some US senators in DC and NYC.

This is great opportunity for poeple living in Maryland and DC area. It is easy to go and meet him personally ! Think about it guys....

This is a Golden opportunity !

First of all what you want honorable Minister to do. Ask him to talk to US Congress to pass the law so that we get GC faster. Let say he speaks on our behalf. All I see happening is things getting worse rather than getting better. Those who are on the other side of the table will get a point to oppose to those who are supporting us. This is what going to happen. Every provision that is supporting our cause will be opposed by the fact that it has been done under the influence of foreign Government in this case it will be Indian. Organizations like numberusa is vehemently looking for a way to prove that how all pro-immigration provisions are anti-american. So we hand over them the Jackpot.
Whole idea of involving Indian Minister looks to me like small kids involved in a fight seeking help of their parents to get the issues fixed. Here we are not dealing with neighbors kid. Lets grow up..
