Please be prepared for unanticipated actions in case of rallies
Check this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFdNk...elated&search= IV members - never lose control or temper - in a public rally. Be careful - remember, in this current scenerio we do not have much sympathy - if any official assualts us - more sympathy will be towards them. Please do a thorough research on how effective rallies are based on our situation. We do not have much political support - no government support, no public support - and not the least of sympathy though we contribute so much. In case of unanticipated actions - we may never know if politically we will have any help fro higher ups. Also - please check the numbers ( remember though a lot of people show enthusiasm in discussion forums, in reality you will find very less people taking part) So please do your homework and do a lot of discussion. Do not hurry up and rush into rallies. A lot of rallies are done by disciplined leaders who plan these well in advance. Please do some research. Once again - it is nice to see the zeal in all the members to do something. Please contribute to IV. Participate in media drive and update information. Help in all posible ways. Please contact core to discuss strategies. Keep up the spirit.

I guess it would have to be a pretty big and wild rally to have the police getting involved.
![]() But Chandu raises an excellent point. There is much more to a rally than just turning up. Some one from core can probably help with detailed instructions.. these are just my thoughts.. feel free to add/correct.. (PS: I have zero experience in rallies, by the way) First, I suppose checking with the local authorities and informing them of your plans, expected turnout, location, duration etc before anything else is a good idea. Bad idea to have have an unexpected crowd turn up randomly in a public place. Organize placards, banners, podium, hand outs etc. Dont forget first aid kits, water. Figure out who is going to be the spokesperson for the rally. Would be pretty silly if a reporter does come there and no one knows how to articulate well. The spokesperson should check with core regarding message etc. This is important. If there is critical mass for the rally, and the authorities are informed etc, then contact the local news and inform them as well.. Any other ideas/tips? Quote:

Yes, registering with the Police department of the city is a must. All they need (at least in San Jose) is your name, driver's license number etc. They will register it.
You dont need permit for walking on sidewalks. You need permit only if you plan to stop traffic and block streets. None of us want to do that. Check with your city's police department and find out how to register for march on sidewalks without stopping traffic. I guess that's a lot easier than getting permits to stop traffic etc. Now, as to rallies other than San Jose rally, if you plan to lead the rally and get the event registered, then please email me at jay@Immigrationvoice.org and I will help you get members. I have list of all members and their states and once you finalize the event, I will email the entire list and point them to you. I will also provide you with material, guidance and Immigration voice's message and talking points should you be approached by a reporter. In fact, its a good idea to tell local papers in your area before hand so that the know to cover the event. Members in NYC, Washington DC, Chicago, LA etc should have absolutely no problems in finding enough members planning to walk on the street for an hour. I will help you find enough participants in your city, if you send me an email and if you are ready to lead these events. |

I have initiated the similar discussions on Murthy. Please take a look this thread and reply to that thread.
http://murthyforum.atinfopop.com/4/O...1&m=6341054251 We should do something and this is the right way to show our unity. We can also gather students from different universities (as they will going to suffer the same pain as us). |

Just came back, here is my report: - There were five Chinese and seven Indian people at the march. It was small fun group. - The group was small but the outcome as you will note from my report below was productive - Fighnow, who is the Chinese member of mitbbs.com had initiated this 7th July march. Due to short notice we couldn't publicize this event but still it was good to see a bunch of people show up. - Fightnow and his friends were fully prepared with big banners and all, with appropriate slogans - In the beginning there was some police presence but they left an hour later, I guess because of a small group - We carried our placards and banners on the sidewalk and got lot of "honk" support from people driving by. - Luckily a Chinese TV station happened to be in the area and interviewed many of us. The station is called KCSN 30, if I remember correctly and this news story will air on Monday evening in Bay area. I will post details about this after hearing from fightnow. - The parking is free on weekends. ---------------------- What we need to do is: - Organize a bigger march on 14th July - Organize a similar event in DC if possible to get more mileage - Prepare some banners and placards etc. - Bring water, it was warm - Have fun ----------------- Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions
